A word of encouragement to
Canadian poultry breeders
comes from A. Drew Davey,
direoter 4t_ _CDA's
Recalling the rapid extension
of Arileriean breeding stock ire'
to Canada in the early 1950's;
'Mr. Davey said recently that
this.coincided wrtaha mme when
the Betchantllis re''tariadiart
poultry breeding stook Was run-
ning into viridus difficulties.
The franchise operations of
U.S.:poultry stock involving an-
ternationallly-advertised' names
and. tied in with extensive .mer-:
chandiising programs provided
a -much easier path for the
Canadian commercial hatchery -
man in the sale of chicks.
Mr. Davey said he was not
speaking critically of this de-
velopment 'and freely admitted
that this 'franchise stock. from
outside Canada had contrybtuted
to increased efficiency here.
However, tests Have proved
that wecdo have .and can pro-
duce' poultry .breeding of equal
calibre. in Canada, said Mr.
Davey. , ,
