As Car$ Damaged, Beasts Killed
Cattle. on the roads and high-
ways have been handing out a
beating to unwary car drivers
and vice versa, according to
recent records of the Provinc-
ial Police of the Goderich -de-
On Monday night about 11
o'clock, Paul W. Sode of Strat-
ford was unfcirtunate enough
to drive his '61 Falcon smack
dab into a cow on No. 8 High-
way about two miles east of
Clinton. The car was damaged
to the extent of about $150,
while, the cow, suddenly reduc-
ed to" meat, was valued at $300,
aecording to Provincial Con -
%stable R. E. Sims .,who checked.
Wtit- the unusual accident. Min-
ford Thobapson of R.R. 4, Clin-
ton, was the owner of the late
lamented cattlebeast.
Leaping Calf
A calf that jumped out on
the road in front of a car
driven by Robert M. -McAllister
of R.R. 2, Auburn, was killed
and the '63 Chevrolet damaged
to the extent of about $100
Thursday about 8.20 p.m.
Mr. McAllister was prOceed-
ing east on Concession 6 and 7
of West Wavianosh about four
miles east of County Road 27
when the animal suddenly ap-
peared before him, allowing
no chance to miss.
The calf, owned by Augustine
Redmond of R.R. 2, Auburn,
was valued at $70. Provincial
Constable R. S. Balls of the
Goderich detachment investig-
ated.
Injures Head •
It took 20 -stitches to close
lacerations 'to the forehead of
Walter A. Holland of R.R. 7,
Lucknow, when his car struck
a tree last Thursday evening.
' The accident occurred about
four miles south of Lucknow
on Ashfield Township Road No.
Engine Stalls
At Wrong Time
As Cars Collide
A car engine that stalled at
precisely the wrong moment
contributed to a collision on
Bayfield road about 8.55 a.m.
Friday morning in which two
cars were damaged to the ex-
tent of $400.
George Quinn was driving
out of the Goclerich Motel
driveway and just arrived on
the pavement when his engine
stalled before he could navi-
gate out of the way of an on-
oming car driven by Betty L.
Guidi of Owen Sound. Neither
driver was injured,

A 1962 Pontiac, green with
white top, is reported stolen
frem the car lot of Aberhart's
garage; st. Andrew street. The

removed from the lot sometime

To Raise Funds For Orpnage,

thing will be capitralized on by
the A.Y.P.A. of St. George's
Anglican Church who plan a
"smash the car" event, where
a silver quarter entitles the
customer to take a savage swing
at an old automobile with a
sledge hammer.

GEORGE BELCHER
A lifelong resident of Gode-
rich, George Belther, 81, died
ita Victoria Hospital, London,
The funeral service will be,
held at the Lodge funeral home
on Friday It 3.30 p.m., conduct-
ed by Rev. W J. ten Hoopen
of North Street United Church.
Interment will be in Maitland
cemetery.,
Mr. Belcher worked for
Doty's Engine Works as a ma-
chinist and later for DRMCO.
He had been retired for about
the past 18 years. He was a
well-known., singer locally for
some years, Mr. Belcher was
a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Belcher.

The death occurred at Alex-
andra Hospital Wednesday
morning after a lengthy illness
of Herbert Lamprey, 83, for
many years a farmer in Gode.
