The Department of the In-
terior, whose secretary . has
cabinet status in the United
States government, has been
called "the Mother of Depart-
ments." For many years after
its establishment in '1848, the
interior was given responsibility
for numerous seemingly unre-
' lated "federal activities. In the
interest of efficiency, mariY of
these responsibliities were . hilt-
ed from the interior to new de-
partments formed specifically to
handle them. Thus, the inter-
ior "mothered" the departments
of Agriculture, Labour and
Commerce.

of those. attending the gathering was all
on . the cold weather sport of hockey. It
was a wildly enthusiastic group of young
hockey players who enjoyed the evening's
program to the full. •

ment. he gets from his coach.
"You will begin. ,Ato realize
as you get older, that the coach
of your hockey team gives
many hours of his time to your
recreation. I would certainly
not be where I am today were
it not for the many hours that
men like your own coaches
spent with me, to teach me. the
fundamentals of the game.
Listen to your coaches,". said
Larry, "and do what they tell
you, and maybe we will play
side-by-side on the same NHL
team some day."
After receiving their crests
and trophies, the youngsters
were treated to hot dogs, drinks
