About $1,500 has been raised to date through the house-to- house canvass conducted by vol- unteer canvassers from the two local chapters of the I.O.D.E. The canvass involved 66 canvas- sers plus six team captains. Collections from some of the local industries and commercial houses have not as vet- been completed; and one team cap- tain is yet _to report, so it is 'hoped the objective may yet be reached. Those who were not contact- ed during the canvass may still contribute to the .Red Cross fund by leaving their donations at The Bedford Hotel. A detailed report on the, re- sults of the campaign will be issued when the returns, are completed. CLEVER CONTRIVERS The sixth meeting ' of the Goderich Clever Contrivers was held at the homeof Carol Mc- Ilwain on April 3rd. Roll call- was a sample of slip 'stitching. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sharon Lockhart and the minutes of another meeting by Pat Mc- Ilwain. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Joanne Harrison's on April 10. Banquet ARLOW:- Treasurer of comae, Township for 31 years, Reginald ' Glen was guest'- of .hdnor-- at a dinner party feel' 'at the Township Hall Friday evening on the occasion of his official retire- ment as Township Treasurer. Reeve Ralph Jewell was chairman of the program. OBITUARY GEORGE B. DOWKER• George B. Dowker, 42, of Toronto, son of George ,N. Dow- ker of Goderich, died suddenly at Toronto last Thursday. The funeral service was held at Toronto Monday afternoon with interment in York cemetery, Toronto. Mr. Dowker attended public school' and collegiate at Gode- rich. His father lived in Gode- rich until about three weeks ago when, because of i11 health, he moved to- London to live with a daughter. Surviving besides his wife, the former Marian Thornewell, Mr. George B. Dowker" leaves one son, Roger; two sisters, Mrs. E. J. H. (Gertrude) Ryall of London; Mrs. R. S. N. (Au- drey). Blanchard,. of .Germany. and two brothers, Arthur > of n-hf117-and---Freder-ie1c of - Lachine, Quebec. over the years. Deeply touched, by the trib- utes, Mr. Glen• expressed his sincere appreciation far the courtesies extended to him. In a reminiscent mood; Mr. Glen recalled the various - reeves, clerks and treasurers with whom he had workgd over the years. On behalf of the Town' -hip, Charles lVfillian presented. Mr. Glen with a reclining chair and was assisted in this cere- mony by' Harry Watson and Tait Clark. Theladies of Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute catered for the turkey banquet which was held as part of the program. Moving pidtures of local in- terest were shown by Mr. Harry McCreath of Goderieh. Mr. Glen has been succeed- ed in his post by Ben Strau- ghan, clerk of Colborne Town- ship.
