last week at the home of. Mrs.
C, Baecbler. It proved to he
a very successful event.
Despite the rather nasty wea-
ther, the prospect of seeing the
latest in spring bonnets, as dis-
played and described by Mrs.
Humphry of London proved
to be a real attraction ,to the
ladies of the district, as we -l.
as guests from out of• town
points, including - Clinton, Sea
forth and Exeter.

designed and donated by Mrs.
HurriphryO was won by Mrs.
A. Rundle of Exeter.. Mrs. Stat

Mrs. K. E. Taylor, Diocesan pre-
sident, presented: the life mem-
ber certificate, and Mrs. Hunt
pinned on the badge.
The W.A. are very grateful
to Mrs. Lu Legg for the beauti-
ful printing On the certificate.
Canbn Taylor was the guest
speaker at the meeting, chops-
ins for.his. subject Christ's Ag-
ony --actual spiritual conflict --
at Gethsemane. Christ is per-
fect God and perfect man, and
as a man Ile put His trust and
faith implicitly, in Gods the
Father; to! carry Him through
the. trial of the Cross. Mrs.
Bunt thanked Canon Taylor' for
his very helpful talk.

success of a recent bake sale.

Cochrane, Q.C., was presented
with a mantle clock by the
Exeteg P.U.C., in recognition
of his ten years' of service on
that body. Residing in Grand
Bend- now, Mr. Cochrane plans
to niove into their newly pur-
chased home at Goderich short-
ly.
When the British Common -
wealth Trans -Antarctic Expedi,
tion set up a scientific outpost
during the International Geo-
physical 'Year in 1956, one K.
V. Blaiklock `and seven men re-
mained thro.ugh the howli g
winter j •to build a camp. Sea
ice broke away nearby, bearing
off most of their supplies. The
eight men lived through much
of the Antarctic winter in one
large packing crate.
OBITUARY
GILBERT PLANTE
The death occurred at Vie-
toria hospital, London, oz Fri.
day of Gilbert Plante, , 75, a
resident of Goderich for 84
years. He had been ill for
$Qveral weeks.
Mr. Plante was Dorn at San,.
dusky, Ohio, on April 20, 1837.
His parents, the late Mr. tina
Mrs. David Plante, were origin-
atly from Quebec City, , Inter
moving to Sandusky. When
his parents moved from San-
dusky to' Stt, Joseph, Ontario,
Gilbert remained on in Miclti-
gad sailing on the Great Lakes.
At -the °age of 21 he joined his
parents. at St. Joseph. On May
.19, 1908, he married Elizabeth
M. Jeffrey of St, Joseph at St.
Peter's Church there. The
couple moved to Goderich
where Mr. Plante worked for
Goderich Manufacturing Com-
pany. Later, he was with Im-
perial )il ,Limited. For abo.tlt
the past 27 years he has oper-
ated an Imperi,al 'Oil Service
Station at Goderich. On May
19, 19513, Mr. and Mrs. Plante
celebrated their 50th ,wedding
anniversary.
Surviving,' besides his wife
are: one son, W, N. Plante of
Don Mills, Ontario; four daugh-
ters, Mrs. J. (Rita) Blakely, Mrs.
Ben (Delina) Johnston, Mrs. D.
D. (Verna) Worthy, all of Gode-
rich, and Mrs. Lyle (Doris)
Compeau of Tillsonburg; ',one
brother, William of Detroit; two
sisters, Mrs. Pauline Jeffrey- of
Blake, Ontario, and Mrs. Valeda
Corriveau of Drysdale.
