TIE "One of the best • games of mer season," was the cOmment from many of the 433 fans as they left the arena Friday night. The Siftos had just fought the, Waterloo Siskins to -a 5-5 over- time tie. The game was a reversal of form as the 'Siftos struck first and after their first, goal they never did look ba, The Sis- kins had- to score t'+d' keep pace with the Siftos. :They came from behind on five different occasions to tie up the game. A key faotor in the game was the outstanding play of McNab in the Goderich nets. It was undoubtedly the finest goal - keeping performance he has turned in on home ice this year. _ . The Siskins were rarely on the short end of the offensive play and by the time the total shots on goal were totaled up they came out on the long end by a wide margin. Final totals were: by Waterloo, 59, and by Goderich, 37. Goderich held a slight edge in play in the first period and they picked up, the first goal of the game at 7:47. Hether- ington set Bowness in the clear with a beautiful p$ms . Roger, playing one of hinn'best home efforts of the season, made no - mistake as he put a hard low. drive into the bottom right- hand corner. Waterloo scored. with only 50 seconds remaining in the period to tie it up for the first time. Thompson and Loveless com- bined on the first of their three goals early in the second. It was methodical passing that put Thompson in position for the tally, his 30th of the season. Leduc got tagged with a minor for hooking. McNab played a key roll in this defence and his team mates also put on a fine exhibition of defensive hockey. It was a fast, rough period of hockey and the Siftos were outshot 20 to 9. Each team scored twice be- fore the halfway mark of the final stanza. Loveless scored from Thompson for their sec- ond goal-.. Waterloo tied it up for the fourth consecutive time and then Thompson scored from Loveless to finalize their pace- setting play. Clairmont, who scored the third goal, picked up his second of the night te- give his team-mates . at least a point for their night's play. In overtime, the teams raced ti -to end with . neither team being able to score. It was a fitting finish to a fine exhibition of hockey. Waterloo did every- thing to score aa' they -tested McNab 11 times but he was not to be denied. The Siftos had only four shots on net in the period but anyone of them could have - gone for- a goal. The big gun for the Siskins, Wayne Clairmont, did not leave the ice in overtime and played a sparkling period in a deter- mined bid to take home a win. .w. This Friday night the Siftos play host to thh Owen Sound Greys in their final home stand of the season. Goderich has played some of their best home ice hockey against the' Greys and this one should be, ,equal to all the others as the Siftos will endeavor to finish the sea- son°with a will in front of their home fans.
