city for my Grade 11 kids to see
a play, canvass for the YMCA

without somebody hollering at

One of these days, I'm going
to put my foot down : over these
financial crises of ours, and if c
it doesn't sink right to the knee,
there'll be some 'changes made.

,
The budget was presented by tions of Young Canada Week in
the treasurer, Maurice Jenkins, the pasts Hugh Spring stated,
in the absence of'nthe chairman "We are just about, breaking
of the finance committee, James
Britnell.
The conclusion of the budget
presentation read: "Your com-
mittee does not suggest that
this report be adopted as pre
sented..and would welcome any
constructive criticism and sue-
estions," This gave the green
light to a parade of protesters.
On the. proposal of Clyde
Everett, a motion was finally
passed which calls for "further
consideration". of the proposed
budget. The financial present
ation is to be turned back to the
chairman' of the finance com-
mittee and the chairman of the
ways and' means committee.
.They are to look into the pos-
sibilities of additional. fund•
raising methods in order that
the Lions Club might be in a
position to carry out its usual
program, rather than curtailing
some of it due to lack of money
to finance it.
First protest on the austerity
program came from Bob Smith
who objected to the proposal
that Education Night be done
away with. He said that he had
been working on plans to have
as guest speaker for that oc-
asion premier Lesage of°`Qtte-
bec, but would agree to a pro
posal that:. the night be dis-
pensed with for one year. How-
ever, the matter was finally left
with the finance committee to
determine whether or not it
could still .be. financed.

even financially every year."
Bruce Holmes later stated that
from present indications the
usual sources of finances to
carry on . Young Canada Wet*
would not be 'sufficient to do
so next spring. Therefore, he
maintained, it would be neces-
sary to use the $500 left by the
late 'Reg McGee for Young, Can-
ada Week activities. It was
earlier suggested that this
money be put into bonds and
held as an emergency fund for
Young Canada Week. Mr.
Holmes ' believed the - need . to
use it for an emergency fund
would be next spring. "We're
going to have to take quite a
bit o fthe $500 McGee fund for
next spring's Young Canada
Week, said Bruce Holmes.
Ted Roberts thought Lions
Club expenditures were out of
balance in that the club was
spending more on sports than it
was on welfare. •
As a means of raising more
money, Gerald Crawford felt
that the Lions Club bingo cos-'
tomers should be given .better
service. •
Clayton Procter said the fin-
ancial need for 'support of the
retarded ' children's school in.
Goderich would be more than
was planned on some time ago.
Alvin McGee questioned the
advisability to giving to such
things as CARE when there" is
need of the money for local
causes.
