Explorers Group Formed 'A new Explorers group has been .formed at Knox United Church under the leadersl>,i s df Mrs. Charles Lewis. She is at silted Icy Mrs. Maurice Bean, Mrs. Robert Arthur, Mrs. Ary thur Grange and Mrs. Murray Wilson. These girls between the ages of nine to 11 are from' the Auburn charge and seven meetings `will be held before the initiation ceremony. Last Saturday 19 girls were present for the Saturday morning meet- ing held in the Sunday school room . of: the church from 10. a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Winners at Ploughing Match • Mr. Courtland Kerr of Ben- milier and Mr. E.d. Davies won fifth . prize in the horseshoe pitching competition held last Friday at the international ploughing match at Owen Soured. There were 14 counties taking part and these two men represented Huron County. Mr. Harold Carter also attended the competition. 88th Birthday Congratulations Congratulations are extended to Mrs. J. C. Stoltz who cele- brated her 88th birthday at_her home here in the village. ' Mrs. Stoltz enjoyed the day with a car ride around the country to see the beautiful maple trees in their autumn hues and in the evening , received many friends and -neighbors. She -was also the recipient of many cards and gifts. Despite her advanced years she is very active and at tends Knox Presbyterian Church every Sunday and looks after her home daily. Plans were made to send a bale to the Muncey Indian} Reserve. Rev. Mr. Meally closed the meet- ing with prayer. After an auc tion, lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. John Daer. Sponsor Missionary Couple The Auburn charge -of the United Church of Canada has undertaken a new project this fall, that of adopting a mission- ary and his wife. This couple were guests of honor' last week in the Auburn church. Rev. and Mrs. James Stockton of Ayr are leaving next week for North Rhodesia. Rev. Stock:, ton is a graduate of Emmanuel thankful. The response show- ed that they were thankful for good parents and good berries. Plans were discussed to 'collect for U.N.I.C.E.F. again this ,year and this will be done on Sat- urday, October 27th starting at 10 a.m. The girl were told that one cent provides five large glasses of milk for a child and also that five, cents pro- vides enough penicillin to cure a child of yaws. The annual Hallowe'en party was set for October 30th at 7 p.m. Each member is to bring a friend and all are to come in costume. A short report -of the C.G.I.T. rally held at Seaforth was given. Mrs. Duncan MacKay was.. in charge of the study and spoke on the value of reading good books. She urged the girls to get in the- habit of reading and told the life of Louise May Al- cott and of the books she has written. The offering was re- ceived by Petra Tiechert and dedicated. • W.M.S. Auburn°4-H Club The carried lunch and the making of nourishing sand- wiches was the topic of the Auburn 4-H Club when they met in the Sunday school room of Knox Presbyterian Church. The meeting was opened by the president, Jannett Dobie and all repeated the pledge. The min- utes were read by the assistant secretary, Marian Hickey. The roll call was answered by each member telling what vegetable supper dish she had made at home. The girls discussed the - carried lunch: what it should contain; how it should be pack- aged, and the art of making .at- tractive sandwiches.
