HURON-BRUCE BYELECTION
A •
uthorized
The byelection set for 'Huron -Bruce
for October 4th will be an important one
in that it will record the way political
winds are blowing .inOntario at time
when public thinking and sentiment is
changeable. Both Liberal, and Pro.gress-
ive-Cons.rvative parties have chosen young,
aggressive and capable .men as candidates.
While the results will revolve around, to
some extent, two well-known farming per-
sonalities in Huron - Brttee, the overall
policies of the parties whom they repre-
sent will,{at this particularly restless per-
iod, be an important factor in the otitvonme.
The rest of Ontario will have its eyes on
Huron -Bruce for the next few weeks since
the results of the ,voting will mean some-
thing in 'more -ways than one.
IT PAYS TO LOOK AHEAD •
In rase you're interested, there's only
about 100 shopping days until 'Christmas.
Happily, housewives in general, are not
unduly concerned at the moment'a,bout this
`pressing situation." • But -it is not too
ear7, r Goderich merchants to give the
platter some thought in the way- of plait..
iiiiig for Christmas sales events. A.li early
and \vrll-punto d schedule can mean the
differen,-- between mediocre business for
this area and a bustling trade, drawing
patronq..ge from afar.
.I)ovrrt in Tilbury in Essex Count- last
week, (\Bile many', people were --planning
vaeations to get away' from the heat and
0,
bustle, the merchants met- to discuss act-
ivities in eoojer days a Christmas sales
event. They compared the merits of cash
prizes cir the possibility of au automobile
as the major "Shop in Tilbury'' incent-
ive. brief,, they are doing their plan-
ning NOW. , •
With its - Christmas- lighting set-up
now basically arranged, and more •to be
added each year,. Goderich merchants have
laid the foundation for 'making toderich
an attractive .Christmas shopping centre.
Next step should be -,-to arrange _a "Shop
Shop
in Goderich" attractioil for Christmas, and
it's- not a bit too early to start work on it
