The Goderich Public School
Board held its regular monthly
meeting at Victoria School on
June 11th, and appointed John
C. Freeman to fill the board
vacancy formerly occupied by
E, F. Sale. Mr. Sale ' recently
resigned,. on doctor's orders, for
health reasons.
Principal., of Victoria School,
Mr. Harry Shackleton, reported
an enrolment of 692 pupils with
.an average attendance of 96.52%
while Principal Ralph Smith, of
Victor Lauriston School, stated
his enrolment at 303, with aver-
age attendance at 96.53%.
Teacher Miss Kerslake, antic-
ipating a mixed- class of grades
' four and five pupils for next
year, requested additional black-
board space. A • sizable sheet
,of ,slate from old Central School
will be installed to meet the
requiremebts.•
The board's application for
consideration of the proposed
new school, at Blake and Eldon
streets, has been forwarded tci
the Ontario Board of Education
with an; early ,,reply expected.

District Farms
Are Inspected

Grey County Crop Improvement
Association, two busloads strong,
visited in Goderich June 13th
fo"r a tour of district farms and
I
a study of farm management in
Huron County. In charge of the
party was Mr. 'Grant SW,eiger,
Agricultural Representative of
Grey County.
At the farm of J. C. Drennan,
R.R. 1, Dungannon, the group
conducted an early morning
study of new ideas in modern
farm, management.
Next .on the daylong itiner-
ary they visited the farm of
Douglas McNeil, 11.4 6, Gode-
rich, where pasture grass is a
particular specialty. Here they
inspected the methods of birds -
foot trefoil * testing; birdsfoot
being a special type of grass
for pasture development.
Just prior to sharing dinner
in Harbor Park, Goderich, the
C.I.A. members drove. to George
Robertson's farm, R;R. 5, Gode-
rich, for a look at Mr., Robert-
son's venture into beef farming.
ollowing dinner, the ' group
resumed their tour With a visit
to the ;-farm of Alvin Betties,
RA. 2, Bayfield, where dairying
and pasture improvement was
the subject of their study. Mr.
Mettles is a past president of
the Huron County Crop Improve-
ment Association.
At the farm of Robert Allen,
near Brucefield, hog raising and
various cash crops occupied
their attention, after which the
farm of Bev Thomson, R.R. 3,
Seaforth, completed their tour
with a study of poultry raising
and general farm operation.
Later, during, July, the Brant
County C.I.A. will make a sim-
ilar bus torr of district farms. •

"Our doctor. °(Dr. J. C. Ross) is
sick, and the are missing him
badly,. because he has spent
considerable time at the home
during his terra of office. We
are getting along as best we
can.
"Our resident population is
159-89 females. In the Iast
few years the •women have been
increasing in, numbers. Total
admissions since January 1 is
46, quite an increase over last
year, as during the whole of
1961 eutr total of admissions was
S. Of the 46, sib were, -under
70, and of the remainder over 70
their average was 84. In 1961
the total of deaths was only 16,
but up to date in 1962 we have
lost 30, since the first of the
year. A11 but six of the rest -
dents who died were over 80."

Normal School. •
The clas swas returning to
school from a tour of the up-
town salt refining plant. Last
week, they toured the Huron %
County Pioneer Museum and
yesterday, Wednesday, they had
the thrill of a train ride to
Clinton; returning to Goderich
later by bus. The tours'are
part of their„ regular curriculum
under the direction of their
teacher, Mrs. Cory.
