Says Torn Dump
Sign is -Ignored
.A big sign at the town duinp
forbids starting fires. there, No=
body, evidently, pays any 'atten-
tion to it, for fires are going all
the time.
"Either tear down the 'sign or
enforce the rule," suggested
Councillor Jewell. "Baechlers
have instructed their, men to
abstain.,,
"Have we a bylaw?" enquired
the mayor.
"I think we should have a full-
time man fOr the summer," said
Councillor` Squire. "We could
have a gate and lock it at night.
The money we spend on bull-
dozing would pay his wages."
The matter went to the spec-
ial committee for report, and
at this moment Gordon Ban-
nister telephoned to enquire if
the firemen should go and deal
with a fire at the dump.
"Better go up until we get
this thing settled," the mayor
advised.
Earlier, Chief Iioggarth in a
letter called attention to traffic
in the* vicinity of the fire hall
when an.. alarm sounds, so that
firemen who drive their cars
find, difficulty. He recommend-
ed removal of the small, bushy
trees south of the hall• or rem
serving the east side of Water-
loo street between West °and
Lighthouse for firemen's. park-
ing, -
Councillor Moody moved it to
the fire committee.
