Easter.. ; • • Now• generallythere 'is the understanding tat.: during, this season one should, follow cer- din rules of fasting and denial. The- purpose -of.this :•pis that One may comprehend the better the - suffering of the Lord of the Church, as He went to His cruci- fixion, that we may enter deep-' er and deeper into the shadows of !lumen sin and.sorrow. ",'hat the shadows of human sin and ,sorrow are deep is beyond guess tion. .The reality of suffering, of anxiety, of despair are seen on the front pages every morn- ing as well as in the faces of the people. What is the cause of this darkness that hangs over man's existence? Jesus Christ is referred to ` as ` the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world and in doing' so He drew unto Himself all the sin that human nature is capable of committing. The pride of the people of the Church of that day, the money -lovers em- bodied in Judas, the jealousy and envy and the suspicions7 hicimfallsisved- sdeatl ptiiese.A .err. t, . x why .society suffered and still suffers: Now no. amount of fasting or . any season as such will do us any good sinless we selves were involved 'in His cru- cifixion. Therefore no forgive- ness'•is possible= -without -repent ance,__ no communion;..wfthou confession. .It is generally un- derstood that one cannot earn his way into the Kingdom of God. It is a free gift. But how free is it? So free that Chris- tians can do as all other peo- ple? Is -discipleship without obedience? 'Is the "grace of God cheap"? It was the sin of man that condemned the Son of Man and it cost Him His life. There was nothing cheap about the way in which God dealt with the darkness of 'this world. It was rather a costly thing. , Discipleship, that is Chris- tianity with Christ, must be. -a life of repentance„ of -discipline and of obedience,'If there is to be any fasting' any denial, not for just a season, but for the whole of life, it must find its source in the -great sacrifice made for . us. It will 'be a costly thing then, and nothing cheap, about -it. You will also feel that you draw'the suffering of the world to' yourself. The persons and organizations and expressions of good will offered in their hour of need. It was truly . evidence of the high. regard. ! and affection held for the Cruickshanks4 and the' fine radio and TV service they give their large audience in Western Ont-' arid. The Signal -Star joins with others in 'expressing the hope *that CKNX will emerge from its misfortune stronger and better than ever. And if we know W. T. "Dec" Cruickshank, we are confident it will• -do. just that. Even while- the fire was in progress, a, mobile transmitter went• in- to action to give uninterrupted service. Now, "-plans are under wa-y to ,build a new modern ` station with the ' latest in equipment. It is understood that adequate insurance was on the property which will go, a long way towards definite re-estab lishment of a high order.
