Bride Entertained
Miss Lynda Blake was hostess
at her home last Thursday even-
ing, entertaining for Mrs. Rob-
ert Andrew (nee Carol Pent-
land), a recent bride. A mis-
cellaneous shower was amus-
ingly arranged with 'an alarm
clock set as a clue for hidden
gifts. A scrapbook was com-
piled as a memento from her
girl friends. At the clese of
-the evening the hostess served
a dainty lunch.
Woman's Missionary gociety
' The Erskine Woman's Mis-
sionary Society held the Christ-
mas meeting in the church on
Friday last. Mrs. Robert Mc-
Allister opened with the Christ-
mas service of worship. Nine
answered the roll call with a
verse of Scripture on .c lir*.
'bias. Plans were made ' for ' a
Christmas gathering. The
meeting closed with a carol
ahd the benediction. After-
wards the ladies looked at the
display of gifts for the kitchen.
Miss Sarah Ellen DUrnin
Dungannon's eldest citizen,
Miss Sarah Ellen Durnin, pass-
ed away suddenly on Saturday
night at Alexandra Marine and
General Hospital, • Goderich.
She lad been a patient there
having suffered an attack of
pneumonia. Although very
weak, she had seemingly made
a 'splendid recovery. Just a
cou ple of hours before her
passing, she had read sonie of
her Christmas mail with her
niere, Miss Flora Durnin, and
spoke of the senders. For the
past 30 years she had made her
home with her brother, Robert
J. Durnin, and on October 14th,
observed her 99th birthday. -She
had previously lived in Wawa -
nosh for about 45 years. and in
the West and in the States for
a few years. Her parents, the
late Charles Durnin and Re-
becca Smyth Durnin, lived on
the sixth concession of West
Wawanosh. There were 11'
children, four daughters and
seven sons, from this marriage
with Robert J. being the last
surviving member. The daugh-
ters were Mrs. George (Mary
Jane) Agaar, Mrs. James (Eliza)
Agaar, Rebecca and Sarah ]
Ellen: the sons, Dr.- Brown,'
Dr. Charles, Dr. George, John,
Will. Ernest and Robert. Miss
Durnin, a tall stately woman of
sterling character, was a sple,n-
did example to all and lived a
very useful life. She was a
member of St. Paul's Anglican
Church. The rector, Rev. Wil-
fred Wright, conductM the

Mrs. D. A. MacLean was in

December meeting of the WMS
which -was held on Thursday
at the home of Mrs. Emile
MacLennan. Mrs. 'Colin Mac-
Gregor gave the devotional and
the rest of the committee were
Mrs. Henry MacKenzie, .Mrs.
W. Wylds, Mrs. S. MacLennan
and Mrs. Bob Farrish. The
various secretaries gave reports
for the Tear.
