Hillman — McLuhan
A wedding of interest to
many people in this vicinity
took place at Thistletown Unit-
ed Church on November 30
when Delores McLuhan, Tor-
onto, became the bride of Eric
Hillman, .also of Toronto. The
bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Leo McLuhan" and
niece of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Dobie, of Auburn, with whom
she has visited on numerous
occasions. ReV. Harry Martin
officiated . for the double -ring
ceremony. Given in marriage
by' her father, the bride wore a
street -length white brocaded
dress. The bodice was em-
broidered with pearls and beads
and had three-quarter length
sleeves and V-shaped neckline.
A crown of pearls held her
finger-tip veil of French illusion
and she carried a bouquet of
Tal, sweetheart roses and white
miniature carnations. The maid
of honor, Miss Jannett Dobie,
of Auburn, wore a street -length
dress of Dutch blue velvet with
matching head -piece and she
carried a bouquet of yellow
roses and white„ miniature car-
nations. Three little flower -
girls, Michele Marchiori, Oak-
ville, Cindy Rowley, Thistle-
town,---niece

Ann Rooke, of Barrie, cousin
of the groom, wore identically
styled Dutch_blue velvet dresses

carried nosegays of pink roses

groomsman was Donald Milli-

were Bruce Hillman, Toronto,
brother of the groom, and Don-
ald Wilkinson, Hamilton. For
the reception which_ followed
in the Fort York Armories,
Irish Officers -Mess, Toronto,' the
Uride's mother received the
guests in a beige brocaded dress
with green accessories and a
corsage of yellow roses. She
was assisted by the groom's
mother who wore a lilac wool
dress with hatching accessories
and a -.corsage of white roses.
For a wedding trip to Niagara
Falls and Washington, D.C.,' the
bride donned a green wool suit
with gold hat and black acces-
sories. Guests were present
from Auburn, Wingham • and
many other points.

The Woman's Association of
Knox United Church met in
the Sunday school room of the
church for the last meeting of
theW.A. In Januuary the W.A.

the 'name of "The United
Church Women." Mrs. George
Millian presided for the devo-
tional period with Mrs. Norman
Wightman accompanist. The
Scripture lesson from the 13th
chapter 'Of the Gospel of John
was read by Mrs. William J.
Craig: Mrs. Robert Arthur
gave, the meditation on -the les-
son and Mrs. Elliott Lapp led
in prayer.At this time a mo-
ment of silence was observed
for former metnbers who had
been called to higher service
during the existence of the
W.A. A duet was sung by Mrs.
Charles Lewis and Mrs. Emmer-
son Rodger. The offering was
received byf' - Mrs. William
Straughan and Mrs. Elliott
Lapp. Mrs. Millian gave a
short talk on the formation of
the W.A. and it was reviewed
by the past presidents, namely,
]!firs. Bert Craig, Mrs. John
Duiinin, Mrs. Maurice Bean,
Mrs. At-thtir Granige and Mrs.
Kenneth McDougall, Mrs. Fred

C.G.I.T. met in the Sunday

secretary, Gail Miller. The roll

Carol Service December 17
The - annual Interdenomina-
tional Carol Service will be
held on December 17th in Knox
Presbyterian Church with Dr.
D. J. Lane officiating. Musical
numbers will be supplied from
each congregation in the village
and the president of the Bible
Society, Donald Haines, will
show two films, "Christmas
A,,, Through the Ages" and "Christ-
mas Carols." This service is
sponsored by the Auburn
branch of the British and For-,
elgn Bible Society.
Norman Joseph Brown
A former resident and busi-
nessman of this village, Norman
Joseph Brown, passed away at
Paris last Saturday in his 70th
year. During World War I he
operated the harness shop for
Mr. Alfred`' Rollinson who was
on active duty, and is remem-
bered by many of the people
who knew him in those days.
He has operated a leathergoods
store at Paris for over 40 years.
Surviving besides his wife, the
former Margaret Jenkins is a
daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary)
McKee, 'Galt; a brother, George,
South River; three sisters, Miss
Clara, Calgary; Mrs. Roy .(Ade-
line) Elliott, Thedford; Mrs.
Harry (Lydia) Burns,. London.
The service was held on Tues-
day, December 5th, at the Bruce
B. Smith funeral home with
burial in Paris cemetery. '

The Young People's Society
