Sarnia -With. 7-5 Score
*
(Signal -Star Staff)
Within five minutes, Goderich
blew a ,four goal 3rd period
lead in their 7-5 win over Sar-
nia Legionnaires on .Tuesday
night.
Carrying the play. throughout
the first two periods, they out -
shot the hosts by a., wide mar-
gin. The third, period could
have been disastrous as the
Siftos fell apart for the first
half and Sarnia pumped in 4
;goals in a little over Ave,min-
utes to
terms.
The ,first period was scrambl
and uninteresting"" with both
teams showing chippiness and
willingness to fight. Goderich
proved to- be the opportunists
and by the 15 minute mark of
the first period Siftos had
chalked up .a '3 to 0 lead on
goals- by Connelly, Doak and
Connelly again. Chuck didn't
miss the opportunities that he
had and worked hard through-
out the entire period.
Second Period
Cauffield scored the first of
two goals on an unusual play
in which he broke in on the
Sarnia goal with Goodwin who
made the play. Cauffield pick-
ed up the rebound from behind
the net, flipped the puck from
behind, and the goalie baubled
it into the. goal.
The other score of the period
went to Leduc on one of the
most spectacular plays that will
be seen this season. Picking
up the puck inside his own blue
line, he faked three players,
split the ,defense and xnad'e the
goal tender look as though he
wasn't in the game at all.
Third Period
Sarnia ante out in the third
period and for 10 minutes look-
ed like the old, chamiiionship
Legionnaires as they kept the
Siftos on the ropes for ten
minutes. They scored four
goals and prevented Goderich
from- organizing any attack. At
times Sarni+ looked like a cat
playing wit a mouse as they
ept-the-Sifios.-from. even touch-
ing the puck.
Sarnia kept Siftos disorgan-
ized until midway throttgh the
game and disorganized the
Siftos attack.
John ,Barris came up with
key saves and on many occas-
ions kept Goderich in the game,
even though they . carried the
play for most of the night.
Dennis Williamson, Wayne
Caulfield, Bob Leduc, Brian
Goodwin and John Harris play-
ed well all night for the locals.
Chuck Connelly, with great
delight, picked up the puck
after scoring the final goal of
the night. 'This is a puck

play that started when he pick-
ed ,up a loose puck just inside
his own blueline, stickhandled
around the defense and scored
a beautiful goal into the bottom
left hand corner, Connelly put
it on ice late in the final period
with his third goal of the night.
Ice Chips
Jeffery got another one of,
those stupid misconduct penal-
ties when in a fit of anger he
slapped the puck after being
called on a minor penalty. This
could hasVe been disastrous as
Sarnia put on the pressure.

We ask Goderich and District

happened to their zeal for
hockey. We cannot understand

Juvenile team, This morning
the coach of the prospective,
team. asked us''qf we wouldn't
mention in our, column the fact
that to date there are only 11
players registered to play In
the Juvenile League.
It does not seem so long ago
that we played juvenile hockey
an. s e on y ' t
Hockey Association . ad to com-
plain about -was the lack of ice
timer that the boys could get.
The enthusiasm of the players
was high and every week they
turned• out for their ONE hour
of play. Here in Goderieh this
week, for example, there will
be practice both Thursday and
Saturday at 7 o'clock in the
evening; not in the morning
like many juvenile hockey
teams' have to do in order to
get ice time,
We feel that there, is per-
haps, the mistaken feeling to,
dathat if you haven't made
juiffor hockey by the time you
are 16 you might as well quit
the game. We suggest that
many players are making a
fair amount of money playing
pro hockey, who never made a
Junior team until they were
too old for juvenile.
All in all you will be amply
rewarded if you turn out this
Thursday night for practice.
We know• there are at least 20
who are good enough and
in
the, rightage
bracket to give
o ...° Ilventik pre-
sentation tear.
The GMHA ,needs coaches
and managers for almost every
division. May we have some
volunteers for these rewarding
position?
Anyone who has old hockey
equipment that is no longer in
use might like to give it to the
GMHA for use by the boys
who do not have any. Contact
Bon Carter on both these items.
