The debate wa , introduced
by Anne Thornloe:
In opening the debate, the
captain of the ali:rina! ive side
stated th.,t if a town does not
grow, it will die; and why can
Goder;,h not beet, the pret-
tiest "city" in Canada instead
of the prettiest "tom! in Can-
ada? Other members of this
side stated that if Goderich
were to become a c it', it would
no lol,,.y'r have to pay an extra
tax to the County; all revenue
would be held and used in 1hr
city itself. They ` referred to
the industry that would come to
Goderich with the increese in
population. More homes would
be needed and this would bring
employment for carpenters and
laborers. More factories would
be built on the outskirts of the
city which would not interfere
with the residential sections. If
a city, there would be bus ser-
vice; • and • mail -carriers to --de-
liver mail to every home every
day. -

argument by saying if Goderich
