The Past Noble Grands Club
of Goderich Rebekah Lodge, 89,
held its • annual meeting at -the
home of Mrs. Harold Rivers last
week. The president, Mrs.
Rivers, presided for the short
business period, and plans were
made to ..celebrate. their tenth
birthday party in September
with a dinner at the Tiger Dun-
lop Inn. Mrs. Nelson Harnack.

program following this dinner.

took place, the evening was
spent in playing 500. The high
lady prize was won by Mrs.
William Doak and the low prize
went to Mrs. Gordon Orr.

McPhee and Mrs. F. Bowra.

The intermittent showers and

W.M.S. meeting, on Wednesday
afternoon at the 'church. " Mrs.
Ivan Rivett was acting secretary
for Mrs. C. Fowler who was un-
able to be present. Mrs. Lorne
Ivers took the devotional with
the theme, "The Works of God."
The roll call was answered by
13 members. It was recorded

Walter Nervy Stafford.—The
community was shocked to learn
of the sudden death of Walter
Harvy Stafford which occurred
in Godericb on Monday after-
noon., shopping- he was
,Stricken with an attack of coron-
ary thrombosis and was dead on
ivalat
A son of, the late Benjamin V.
Stafford and the former Gert-
rude Foster, he was born in
1894 in Howick Township. He
received his education at S.S.
4, Howick, Wroxater Continu-
ation School and Shaw's Busi-
ness College, Toronto. During
World War I ,he served as
quartermaster sergeant with the
161st Battalion. After three
,years of active service, he taught
it the Khaki University of Lon -
Ion, England. -In 1924 he °was
married in Toronto to° Verna
° Iamilton; , second daughter of
the late Dr. and 'Mrs. J. Hamil-
on,' of Dungannon. li'..er 45 years
dr. Stafford was principal of
Shaw's North Toronto Business
College, retiring to Dungannon
with his wife in 1959.
While residing in Toronto he
was a member of Lansing Unit -
.K1 Church, the Business Educa-
.ors Association and the North
Toronto 'Kiwanis: Since retir-
ing- to Dungannon he has ,made
many friends in the community
and was acting secretary of -the
Public School Board of Ashfield
Township. He was an adherent
of St. Paul's Angilcan Church
and the rector, Rev. Wilfred
Wright will conduct the funeral
service Thursday at 2 p.m. at
the Stiles funeral home, Gode-
rich. Interment will be in Dun-
gannon cemetery.
Besides his widow, he is sur-
vived by one daughter, Mrs.
Peter (Dawn) Phemister, Agin•
eourt; two grartdehildren; one
brother, Frank L. Stafford,
Toronto'.
