annual trade fair. The meeting
was attended by industrial and
business men, Town Council,

-chairman, Pete McCauley, pre-
sident-elect of the Kinsmen, ex-
tended a welcome to the guests.
Mayor E.' C. Fisher, introduced
by Len McGee, brought civic
greetings.
In introducing L. E. Cardiff,
M.P., for Huron, H. B. Such,
D.C., said Mr. Cardiff was held
in high esteem by all his con-
stituents and by his colleagues
in the House of Commons.
In introducing the guest
speaker, Hon. Mr. Hees, Mr.
Cardiff said that on the tour of
Goderich industries that after-
noon, Mr. Hees was quite im=
pressed by them. He referred
to Hon Mr. Hees as "the most
live cabinet minister" in his
illlong years at Ottawa and pre-
dicted a great future for him.I,
Hon. Mr. Hees visited the Sifto
Salt Mine, the Goderich Manu-
facturing Company and the Do-
minion Road Machinery Com-

to go to the SheafTer Pen plant
also but had not time to do so.
Hon. Mr. Hees paid tribute to
Mr. Cardiff as Huron's M.P., and
stated he was a very fine mem-
ber of parliament' whom MPs
knew would have something
sensible. to say at _any- time he
addressed the House of . Com-
mons.
"There are not nearly enough
trade fairs being sponsored
across the country." said Hon.
Mr. Hees in his address at Har-
bourlite Inn°: Referring to the
Goderich Trade Fair, he said,
"It helps in your area and it
helps Canada. The bigger you
can make if= the more worth-
while. it willbe. I can't think
of• anything more worthwhile
than the ,promotion of trade
fairs." ,
He gave four reasons for re-
cent unemployment 'in Canada: -
1. The large crops of war babies

ing for jobs. 2. Automation.
3. Lack of education in skilled

Hon Mr. Hees told of the many
ways in which the government
of Canada is giving aid to bring

tions.

At the -official Trade Fair open-
ing cerernonies at Agricultural
Park later in the evening, and
at which Lloyd Bamforth was
chairman, Hon. Mr. Hees again
paid tribute to . the Kinsmen
Club on its trade fair. Mayor
E. C. Fisher slid likewise.

undercutter and drilling machine on the 1,700 -ft. level) of
the Sifto Salt's rock salt mine at Goderich. The mine now
produces .3,500 to ,3,800 tons daily, israpidly expanding

_hopes to export 25 to 30 per cent of production. Rock salt
is used largely in the chemical industries and for ice and
snow control on highways. 1VIr. Hees was in Goderieh
on June '28 to open the Eighth Annual Trade Fair.
