Back in 1911,„ 246 tele-

50 years later, the triangu-

America who proudly call themselves Pioneers. There
are 12,400 Pioneers in, Canada and this month many of
them will gather in Toronto for the .21st Convention of
the Charles Fleetford Sise Chapter — an all -Canadian

All- Pioneers,- here as elsewhere have one important
thing in common — they must have completed 21 years
of 'service in the telephone business. The word "ser-
vice" is probably the key to the Pioneer movement.
On the job the Pioneer like his
fellow employees devotes his
'time to service - telephone
service. How natural then for
the Pioneer to spend his leisure
time serving his fellow employ-
ees and his community. You'll
find' the Pioneer visiting the
sick, helping his.fellow Pion-
eers, promoting hobby interests
and taking an active role in
community projects. It's this
spirit of service that has kept
the Pioneer organization_ thriv-
ing over the years. It has made
the a credit . to the telephone
iltd try, to their fellow employ,.
ees and to their communities.

Do you remember names easily? Or are you like
a friend we ,know who alis everyone "Doctor" or "Colo-
.. nel" ' because he can never remember names? When he
meets two people at the same time and can't recall their
names he introduces' them like this: "Oh, by the way
Doctor have you met 'the colonel here?" Then there's
the sneaky type Who says, "Say, what was your last name
again?" He hopes the fellow will give him his full name.
And there's, the fearless type who recklessly says the
first name that eomes into his head on the assumption
that 80 per cent of the time he'll be right. We've all
probably tried at least one of these tactics at some time
or other, which goes to show that our memory isn't
always as.good as we think it is. The same'thing applies
to telephone 'numbers. It's a lot safer tb look the num-
bier up in the directory or Blue Book of Telephone Num-
bers, and write it down before dialing. This will save
the ernbat rassment and delay of reaching a wrong num-
ber and we won't have to' ,say, "Oops, sorry Doctor, I
Was trying to reach the colonelt" -
