Until a few years ago, he kept nothing but registered Hol- stein milking cows, 24.pf them. But ill health forced him to change his farming routine. His sons, Dennis and Stanley, were too young io help with the chores .and milking,. but he didn't want to get rid of his cattle. He tried , breeding to beef cattle and- suckling the calves on part of the herd which did away with some of the. chores. Ever since then he has been breeding by A.I. to Angus In Connelly's barn, 25 hlack cattle, averaging 800 to 1000 pounds, clipped and groomed, a few showing a bit of white coloring from their Holstein mothers, represented the first and second cross prageny from his original herd of 24 milkers. Only nine of his -original herd reniain. Mr. Connelly milks re r these and sells the Cream. teen other cows, Angus -Hoist crosses, nurse two ealves eac Although the first cross m better gain than the sec Mr. Connelly says they lack t finish and quality of theSe ers. The nine Holsteins be milking now will toot). need placing by either the same bre or his own crossbreds. " assured' by , the ere= ebeCI If he continues with this syste the replacements will be 11 steins. But with the recluc labor he might replace the with crossbreds. ..None of these cattle reed commercial concentrates. On the cows get out tcl pasture, get a heavy ration of corn oats with green second cut b put through the, hammer mi This feed, he grows on his o farms. The Holstein remains unsu passed as a milk producer, M Connelly said. He has many ages 41 thes crossbred calves in his barn., b a newcomer to his herd- is . small calf of Hereford-Charolai breed, which is a new ventur for this dairy farmer. lager, redch fgr_arl Old Vienna— it's a -move irithe light direction. - -Choice V(roole 'White Peg. 2,tins 35c—SAVE 6c Ib 474 AfikP POTATOES 2 20 -fl -oz tins 29 b 53 I Henley Choice Quality lb -FRUIT COCKTAIL 2 2o -H-0. fins 49c CASE OF 24 TINS,$5.88 SAVE $1.56 CASE OF 24 TINS $3.48 — SAVE 72c HERE'S PROOF THAT' YOU tAVE CAOSH!
