The young lad who tried to murder Mr. Dow, Hibbert, and then set fire to his barn, was tried by Judge Woods last Saturday and sentenced to ten years in the penitent- iary. The judge promised to make a special report to the Minister of Justice, in order that the boy's mind and tempermeut may be studied and suitable action taken as to lightening or altering the sentence, as the result of such study and examination may dictate. It is our sad duty this week to chronicle the death of Miss Jane Gilgan, daughter of Thos Gilgan, now of Dakota. Deceased was a very bright and intelligent girl of 16 summers, She had been ailing but a short time, but not being a very healthy girl she rapidly sank until death claimed her as its own. The parents have the sympathy of all, and though He deemed it wise to call His child home, and to all appearances it is a sore trial, yet it is His will and He knoweth all things best.
