Mrs. Tolbert saw her first hockey
game in 1952. Since then she
has seen 522 gashes in 17 dif-
ferent Canadian and 17 different
United States arenas.

JOSEPH J. EDWARD
Word has been received of the
death Of a former Goderich re.
sident, Joseph Jr Edward, who
was proprietor of the Bahnoral
Confectionery in the Bedford
Block for several years. A son
of the late John and Emma Ed-
ward, he was born in Goderich
Township in 187 , ..iii 191.1 ' Yie
went out west. He died at his

and was buriefa on April 3 at
Redlands, California.
Surviving are his widow, the
former Laura Hutt; a son,' Har -
'old, Saskatoon, % Saskatchewan;
one granddaughter, four great-
grandchildren; one niece, Mrs.
Lillian Thomas; Stratford; and
one nephew, F. A. Edward,
Coquitlam, B.C.

A 'resident of Auburn, Mrs.
Jeremiah Taylor passed away in
Goderich on Monday. A daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
George Rutledge, she was born
in West Wawanosh Township..
Surviving are one son, Gordon,
Auburn; . one daughter, Mrs.
Lloyd (Gladys) 1taithby, 30 Bel -
grave avenue, London; two sis-
ters, Miss Estella Rutledge,
Goderich; Mrs, Mabel Westland,
London; and three brothers; Wj1,,
Liam Rutledge, Vancouver; Rob-
ert and Gordon, Goderich.
Funeral services will be held
this afternoon at St. Mark's An-
glican Church, Auburn, with the
Arthur funeral home in charge.
The pallbearers will be Ed.
Davies, Tom Johnston, Robert J.
Phillips, John Maize, Cliff Brovtrn
and Harry Arthur.
MRS. GEORGE BAECHLER
Rev.,S. A. Monte conducted
funeral services on Wednesday
afternoon at the Stiles funeral
home for a lifelong resident of
Goderich, Ione Cutt Baechler,
a member of a well-known Gode-
rich family, who passed away in
Alexandra Hospital on Monday
after a long illness. Interment
was in Colborne cemetery.
A.. daughter :of. the ..late Robert
H. Cutt and the former Ellen
Hillier, Mrs. Baechler was born
in 1900. After completing. -pub,
lic and high schools'in town, she
attended Stratford Normal
School. In 1921 she married
George Baechler. Mrs. Baechler
was an active member of Vic-
toria Street United Church, the
Horne and School Association,
the Rebekah Lodge, and of the
Goderich Lawn Bowling Club.
Surviving besides her husband
are four daughters, Mrs. Karl
(June) _ Dill.o, Kitchener; Joyce,
at home; Mrs. Gord^oin :- (Joan)
Crawford and Mrs, Francis
(Jean) Schram, Goderich; nine
grandchildren; one sister, Mrs.

predeceased by two brothers, J.

England, where stress is put on

particularly benefit G.L.T. mem-
bers. Besides instructing in var-

journeyed to Africa, where in
Addis Ababa she worked with
the African Government and
English schools in teaching cre-
ative dance and mime classes
as well as drama and English
for Ethiopian teachers.
The first ,session here will be
on Friday evening at MacKay
Hall with further classes Satur-
d'ay morning and evening.

on Wednesday of last week in
the Maspnic Temple Assembly
Hall. At this meeting the Chap-
ter honored Grand Electa of the
Grand Chapter of 'Ontario, Mrs.
Beryl Moffat, of Watford.
When thanking the Chapter,
Mrs. Moffat recalled some happy
times When she attended colleg-f
late in Goderich. Another hon -1

The . Fire Department had
three calls in recent days. Last
Friday, they were called to the
home of Mrs. W. A. Clark, Nap-
ier street, where some young-
sters, playing with toy candles,
fired sheets on a bed. On Sat-
grday,,they, went too Upper Lakes
Shipping Ltd., where a sprinkler
went off and flooded a grain bin.
On Monday morning there was
a chimney fire at the home of
Mrs. Ben Young, Trafalgar
street.
