Shortly after this the prisoner shot himself, inflicting a serious injury, and also cut his arm. with a knife. :to The wife staid she had been shot by her husband. She refused to be treated surgi- cally, acted in a strange manner, and the defence alleges that she committed suicide. The wound was in such a position that the clothing must have been pulled to one side to inflict it, because the bullet bad not passed through either of the garments she had ou, The prisoner attempted to take his life on Tuesday last, With a short piece of sharpened wire he endeavor- ed to pierce his heart, and although he pressed it in some two inches he missed. the vital point. The judge addressed the jury at some Length, and instructed thein to return a verdict of not guilty. The prisoner >f 'Kinnon was then arraigned on the charge of attempting to commit suicide and pleaded guilty. Upon this charge he was sentenced to four months'in the coin mon jail. At the assizes, Fred Robinson, who pleaded guilty of forgery, owing to ex- tenuating circumstauces, but liberated upon suspended sentence.
