Net Funds do T o lhorTh Causes TWO CARS COLLIDE AT
Mr. Frank Reid, convener oil
the Poppy Day canvass for the
Canadian Legion, Branch 109,
has announced that same $630
wt3 readied from the .sale of
cenotaph.
«Dursggth-vanxas$, some af-
the, 'canvassers,..wee :asked mata
becomes of the poppy money
received. Mr. Reid reminds the
public again that all contribu-
tions 'provide quick help for
needy veterans and their de-
pendenta. This help 'consists of
many things including the avail-
obility of any veteran to appeal
'to the poppy trust fund for
emergency aid such -as food,
shelter or niedical expenses.
There are also bursaries far
'their.:chlldren's education in de-
serving, needy oases. These vet-
erans are not necessarily Leg-
ion members. All work in the
campaign is voluntary and about
70 percent of ,the money collect-
ed stays in the community. The
rest helps veteran's by going to
the maintenance of Legion ser-
vice bureaus across ' Canada.
These bureaus are Legion de-
partments which give any vet-
eran or dependent help -with

Even though many veterans
do get ,Pensions, many others,
although handicapped, do not,
and no pension can provide for
eventualitie's such -as fare, a long
illness on the part of the breiad-
winner or other medical ex-
penses.
The Legion's constitution
stresses that the funds raised
by the sale of poppies must be
held in trust because they are
substribed by the public. They
are held in a bank account sep-
arate from that of the branches
and ,cannot be used for any
other purposes than those men-
tioned above.
