The Association, of ' .Kinsmen
Clubs was founded in the city of _.
Hamilton, Ontario, in 1920.
Since that time it 'has grown.
to aver 366 clubs with a mem-
bership in excess of 12,000.

passed through the ranks of
Kinsmen during... the 40 years
of the organization's existence.
On February .19, 1960, the
40th birthday of ,the,„association,
a bronze plaque' commemorating
the founding of Kin in Hamil-
ton,• Ontario, will be unveiled
-by Prime Minister Diefenbaker.
The ceremonr°will take place
across the street from the site
of the first Kinsmen Club meet-
ing• -held by Har 1d A. Rogers,
the founder, anthe 10 other
charter members of the associ-
ation.
The Kinsmen Club was found-
. ed to promote and direct fel-
lowship among young men of
good character Within Canada,: .
_and '4 -is....dedieated to
” he Community's Greatest
eeds." It ,is Canada's only Na-
tional Service Club.
In order to ensure that young
men receive the experience of
holding executive offices, no ex-
' eeutive office at club, district
or national Level may be held
after reaching the age of 40.
The Kinsmen Club. of Gode-
rich was formed on May 15,
1947, From the original 22
charter members, the clutb has
enlarged to 36 members. Over
40 Kinsmen have passed through
the • club ranks i since it. was
started.
Many prominent figures in
national and international af-
fairs' have been aided by their
,affiliation with their Kinsmen
Clubs. The Right_ Honorable
John Diefen'baker was a mem-
ber of the Prince Albert Olub,-
and from the Kinsmen Club of
Goderich any former members
and present members are serv-
ing in municipal offices.
Former members Sid Shenton
and Ken "Pennington, both past
presidents of the „Goderich club,
have served on the District and
National Executive of the as-
sociation. Present member Kin
Ken Croft is serving on the-
Goderich Town Council and'Kin '
Gordon Bannister is chairman -

Kin "Pat" Patterson, in ap-
preciation of his untiring efforts
in connection with the Kinsmen -
sponsored Octogenarian Club,_
has been honored by the local

The Kinsmen Club of Gode-
rich has been actively .engaged
in service work in this comrn"l -
ity .since the club's inception.
Some of the services under-
taken are:
. The Octogenarian Club—pro,-
vision of the facilites of a
club room. Membe - of the a
Octogenarian Club are enter—
tained each year at an annual
picnic or outing sponsored by
the Kinsme'n.
2. Monthly visits to County
Kinsrnien Playground and Wading. Pool
Home at (1inton, plus a year-
ly Sunday program for. the
entertainment of the resid-
ents'at bhe home.
3. Kinsmen Playground—provid-
ed with 'wading ipood and
equipment for use by child-
ren of Go-dre 'c'h"'and' 'sum
rounding area.. Proper super-
vision is provided during
summer months.
4. Donated $1,000.00 to furnish
one' room ip new wing at
Alexandra, Marine and Gen-
eral Hospital.
5. Yearly .donations are made to
community welfare brganiza-
tions, such as Cancer ()line,
Red Cross Society, .Salvation
A r m y, I1Ieart Foundation
Fund, etc. Donations to the
Arena Building Fund and
School for Retarded Children

have been, made.
Mist of the money needed to
carry on the Kinsmen Club's
work in the community is raised
from the annual Goderich Trade
Fair, and it is hoped that the
fifth-. Trade Fair this summer..
will be bigger and better than
those of the preceding years.
At present time, plans are being
'made and Mudded to improve
the fair. A future project of
the club under study at the
present time, is the erection of
a 12 -unit, low rental apartment
block for -Senior Citizens in
Goderich.
On the occasion of the 40th
anniversary of their association,
the Kinsmen Club of Goderich
would like to thank all their
supporters for their co-opera-
tion and ,help in the past.
