NOne of the oldest citizens of
est Wawanosh, Thomas Joseph
McCann, of St. Augustine, died
December 3rd in Wingham Hos-
pital in his 90th year. He en-
joyed excellent health and was
actively interested in the affairs
of the community until a few
days before his death, He was
born on November 4, 1870 and
was the _only son. of -_Peter- M
Cann and Catherine Tierney Mc-
Cann. He had lived on his par-
ents' farm on the fifth conces-
sion of West Wawanosh until
moving to St. Augustine some
years ago. • His father was a na-
tive of Dungannon, Tyrone, Ire-
land, and his mother (born. in
1835 on the, Montgomery farm
in Goderich Township) was the
second white child born in that
area. His grandfather, Thomas
Tierney, sailed on Napoleon's
Flagship.
Mr. McCann is survived by
one sister, Miss Caroline Mc-
Cann, of St. Augustine, and nu-
. merous nephews and nieces,
among whom is the Rev. Father
Simon McDonald, of Simcoe: He
'was predeceased by four sisters:
Mrs. Simon (Rose) McDonald, of
St. Marys; Mrs. Peter (Anne)
