Agitation To Revoke
The C.T.A. In Huron
•
The Godettch • Signal -Stat, 'Thursday, Nov, ,(t1l,
ON C.TA.
MENDMENTS
The following are the amendments to the C.T.A.: which
were submitted to Hon. Henri .Courtemanche, and which
will form the basis for an appeal for strengthening the,
existing legislation, following an endorsation of the C.T.A.
on Nov. 30th:
1. That the possession of unsealed, containers of intoxi-
cating beverages in public places be prohibited.
(Except when ' enroute from one legal residence to
another.)
2. That the consumption or possess)on of intoxicating
beverages brought into the County in accordance with
Part 2 of• the Canada Temperance Act be limited to
ones residence. '
3. That the supply to or use of by' persons
twenty-one years of age be prohibited.
4. That a right of appeal to a higher court from the
decision of a magistrate be provided for.
5. That the •pfovisions for search warrants under' the
act be extended to motor vehicles.-•
under
The advantage -'of this proposal is that it will bring bet-
ter"Liquor Control" without introducing any liquor
outlets in our county. '

There is a storm pf protest against C.T:A. claiming.
that it restricts enforcement of the law, permits teen-
agers to become intoxicated and deprives local merchants
of potential tourist trade., Those who advocate the -
revocation of the C.T.A. take the position that Huron
County would be much better served by the Liquor
Control Act.
A more vexing problem is that men and women
who are genuinely interested in the welfare of the com-
munity's youth and business interests, are •being de.
ceived by the above propaganda, The plain truth of the
matter appears to be that those who decry the C.T.A.
a e advocate •a change...in__legislation are the LIQUOR
INTERESTS themselves. Their paid representatives are
leading the campaign against C.T.A. They are anxious
to ' capitalize on a more than. $2,000,000.00! per year po-
tential liquor trade in Huron County.
Their proposed method of dez!ir.g with fe•r+-
agers is to have them arrested and jailed. They are
quite prepared to pert -kit this community to bear the ex-
pense of additional police and give young' people the
impression that drinking is the accepted pattern of the
community. r
Two wrongs never make r, right. Huron is better
off under the Canada Temperance Act.
