Last week a London township farm-
er called on a Veterinary Surgeon to
attend to a three or four -inch cut in
the stria of a horse which had been
running in the bush. The surprise of
the owner can be imngineri when a

length was removed from the animal's
interior. The wood had kept close to
the ribs, and to that fact is attributed
the saving of the animal's life. It. is

Wm. Brown has been arrested at
Brantford at the request at the Wood-
stock authorities. The alleged offence
is that of burglary, three men last
spring having broken into the house of
a man named Adams, near Drumbo,
and badly choked and otherwise le-

caught and sentenced to three years
in the penitentiary, when he im-
plicated Brown as being one of the
principals. Accused, who was team-
ing on the railway, presents a respect-
able appearance. He was taken back
to Woodstock.
Mr. Wm. Colwell, of Mitchell, re-
ceived a pleasant surprise the other
day. 'Twenty,seven years ago a
brother leftthe parental roof in
Brampton, and two years later word

States, and to corroborate the state-
ment a"former neighbor wrote that he

was mourned, and no one ever ex

escape. Donahue was picked up and
doctors were summond. It was found
that. Mr. Donahue had been terribly
injured. His left leg broken at the
thigh, his right leg severely injured
below the knee, his chin crushed, and

The one man agzregation, Boyds alleg-
ed tailors, of London, with a professional
battery, either hired or borrowed, came
down to Lucan and scooped in principal
Edward's 3rd. form school boys. They
were a mottley crowd chiefly composed of
Swedes, Italian Jews and Corkonian
Frenchmen. They relieved Lucan of all
surp':is forty rod and Jersey Lightning
that"wason draft in the place.

the year I609. Be cane to Canada at the
age of 28, and after ~working in Tingrtou
for some time as a carpenter, be settled in
the county of Hastings which was then a
dense forest. He fully understood the
trials and hardships of a Lockwood's lifer.
After living in that county for 42 years
he sold out and came to Hibbert, near
here, where he resided until his death.
Mr. Gilgan had long been n faithful mem-
ber of the Presbyterian church, and was
much respected by all who ;.new him.
The funeral was largely attended notwith-
standing the condition of the weather.
Centralia.
Barras, -Our citizens are very busily
engaged repairing the sidewalks and streets;
the old sidewalks aro being torn up and
are being replaced by gravel. This is a
move in the right direction ; for years our
sidewalks were a disgrace to a civilized
village --We are sorry to hear that our
butchers have wound up business. We
have not heard the reason of their actions,
but it is supposed they have learned that it
did not pay as well as expeoted.-A severe
wind storm passed over this part last week,
it seemed to be a wage about a mile in
width. Considerable damage was done on
the 2nd, con. of Stephen, Mr• D. Manning
had his barn partly unroofed, Mr. W. Hill
who bad just completed about thirty rods
of Russell fence %vas surprised next morn-
ing after the storm to find it flattened out.
Several apple trees were uprooted or broken
down and other damage in general was
done. -Messrs. .Anderson and. Glanville
have returned from the N. W. They speak.

be on hand, also amusements varied in
character will be furnished. The Credition
brass band has been secured here for that
day and we are safe in saying that a rare
treat in music will be given.
