Pupils On Video -
Sixteen Goderich children made
their television debut' on Monday
when the staff and pupils of the
Goderich Co-operative Nursery
School appeared on Margaret Bro-
phy% "Milady" show on the Wing -
ham station. In pn interview, Mrs.
Ed Frantsi and Mrs. Buckie Gra-
ham gave 'a brief outline of the
schools beginning and its first year
of operation,
Mrs. Frantsi stated that the
school was started in October of
last year, by Mrs. B. Popkowski
and Mrs. J. Erskine, Twenty-five
children were picked up each morn-
ing and returned horne at noon by
bus.
The school day, of two hours'
duration, .consists of free play, mu-
sic, graup games' and crafts, in
which the children learn to use
scissers, paste, paint and crayon.
In this way the children of pre-
schooj age learn to work and play
together, thus making the big step
from home t elementary school a
much easier 'one for the young
child.' It was also stated that their
is still room for more pupils when
the fall term begins early in Sep-
tember. An ad giving full particu-
lars w'ill appear in this, paper in a
few weeks' time.
During the program, the child-
ren, led by Mrs. Dave McLeod,
sang two of the many songs' they
learned . during the year.

Have you had your vacation? A look around our town
these days indicates that thousands of others are enjoying
their holidays. And 'the weather? You couldn't wish for better.
,
Speaking of vacations and people travelling, I overheard
this in a Goderich hotel the other day. A hotel clerk was
telling a man, who was travelling with bis 'wife and two boys,
that he only had one single room available. "But there are
four of us," protested the man. "Is that all yOu've got?" ' The
hostel clerk said he was. very sorry. He added: "Of course,
had we known you were coming . . And that's the whole
point—if you're travelling, alone or with your family, and you're
planning to Put up at .an hotel, or motel, don't leave- it te.
chance L let them know when to expect you, By taking this
simple precaution, you are not only asstxred of adequate accom-
modation—more than likely' you will get choice accommodation.
Place 'a phone call. (A night call, station -to -station, covering
about 200 miles, can cost as little as 80 cents).

Here in Canada, most of us answer the telephone, with,
'Hello.' In ,Madrid you would hear 'Hole or `Quien Habla?'
(Who is speaking?'). The Japanese open their telephone con- ,
versations with a lifting, `Moshi Moshi!' which has no precise
meaning'. India has more or less officially adopted Many
which translates as, 'Greetings.' And in .Afghanistan and Iran,
most people prefer `Baleh,''rneaning 'Yes.' Perhaps one of the
heartiest sounding telephone greetings is the .Swahili, `Yambo.'
. . . But no matter what the language, telephOne greetings tell)
the story of people in touch,:

Between the weary hours of a Friday afternoon and the
rays of a Monday morning sun, there is a special quality of
experience called a week -end . . . Week -ends can be noisy as
a firecracker, adventurous as a safariis confusing as a roadmap,
Well-planned.. as an invasion, frustrating as a wet match, or
qpiet as a curfew . . But all .week -ends have one thing in
common -the magic capacity 'for making people want to get
together with other people . . . Sometimes the people we most
want to see and talk to are many miles away.; but there's al-
ways the phone. A chat with distant friends or relatives on
Saturdays and Sundays when one has time to relax a little,
can be as invigorating and as refreshing as a deep-sea breeze.
Call ahead'to 'assure accommodation to make your holiday
a success. Call any time and talk with your relatives and -
friends. It costs so liplerr-,-
