from a heart attack on Sunday
sfternoon at his cottage at Bogie's
Beach near Goderich. Deceased
had not been in good health for
some months but was Apparently
as usual when: he, went to the cot -
tae on Saturday night. He was
54 year of age and was born at
Colborne, a son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William McDougall.
Mr. McDougall was a i.ember
of the Myth 'United Church', the
Blyth Masonic Lodge and the Lions
Club. Prior to going to Blyth iii
4949 as manager of the Bank, of
Commercehe was accountant at
the local branch of the Bank Of
Commerce from 1941. He had
been Qn sick leave from the bank
since last November. While in
Goderich he was a valued and ac -
live member, Of the Goderich Lions
Club
Surviving besides his widow Cs
a on John, who is working on
defence projects in the far North,
a brother, Donald McDougall, of
California, and a sister, Mrs. J.
Keay, of Vancouver, B.C.
Private funeral services were
held at the Tasker funeral home,
Blyth, on Wednesday afternoon
with interment in Blyth -"Union
Cemetery. Rev. Mr. R. E. McLa-
gan officiated and the pallbearers
were Messrs Grant Snarling, Frahk-
lin Bainton, Kinkeac1;* Lloyd
Ortelli, Garfield Doherty and Wal-
ter Buttell. • •

its deceased editor (He died .
1948) who was responsible for guid-

place of eminence in the journal-
istic field. This man was W. E.
"BHP!, Mason, damned by many In
life because of his' .aggressiveness
but now praised in death for. his
accomplishments. We recall bim
telling us - how he had only 50,
cents in his pocket when .hestep-
ped Off the train at Sudbury to
seek his fame and fortune some
decades ago. When he • died" his
estate was valued at over one and
a -half million dollars. He left
much of this to charitable institu-,
tions such as hospitals, etc. Some
Goderich residents will recall that
his brother, Stewart Mason, a news-
paperman of marked Ability, work-
ed in G•oderich at the Goderich
Star and ,Goderich Signal. He died
at the old British Exchange Hotel
where he roomed.
On our one hour stop at Winni-
peg, ,enroute west, we repeated a
ritual we had performed on two
previeUs such visits. No sooner
had the train stopped than we
sprinted in the direction of the
same restaurant we had visited
before. There, we ordered a suc-
culent dish we had grown to -like vided entertainment during the

Typical of the West, Regina gave

streets to Hotel Saskatchewan. The'
weather was unbearably hot in
Regina and no air conditiOning in
the otherwise beautiful hotel did
not help.matters. To make it 'even
worse, the radio annectncers gave
the temperatures for Southern
Saskatchewan points every five
rhintetes. This struck us as rather
odd,

told us tq ,jump in his car and
he'd take us on a tour, of the tosv-n.
This'included seeing the big home
and spacious grounds of a house
in which R. C. Wiiateley, former '

at Goderich once lived and the
school once attended by Miss Kay •
Whateley, of the Goderich Post

ern town of a little higher type
than the average and the Experi-
mental Farm,has seen to it that it
is well landscaped with lovely
trees.

brought in from as far away as
North Dakota, They staged a big
Indian war dance on. the beautiful
lawns on the Experimental Fa.
Old Indian chiefs, lovely young In -,
ian maidens and even a four-year-old
boy, all ..in -costume, took part in
the dance. They even called on
the white people 'to join in and
some who had been given an extra
lift by "fire water" kept up the
pace of the rugged warriors.
