Carl Hemingway) The Huron County Federation of Agriculture held its ,second annual worship service and picnic at the United Church Summer School camp 'north of Goderich, Sunday, July 5th. Winston Shapton, County presi- dent, introduced_ Envoy Newman and the Salvation Army band. The hand opened, the service with pre- lude 'music and provided accom- paninient for the singing of the hymns under the leadership of the Huron County Junior Farmers' 1167 -Dr. A. 1\limmo,,Mulinviro of the 'Presbyterian Church, took as, his text Jeremiah 4'3, "Thus sayeth Jehovah to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, 'Break up the fallow ground and sow •,not among thorns'." He pointed out that farmers know only too well the need for thorough cultivation of the' soil and the rooting out of weeds and •thorns in the produc- tion of crops. In the same man- ner, for the growth of the "King- dom" it is necessary to break into new lands and reopen; areas that have gone to waste in order to spread the teaching of Jesus throughout the world. It is use- less for us to try to sow the seed if we have failed to uproot ,the thorns of selfishness, pride, greed and spite. We need to beware of precon- ceived opinions, Dr.-,Nimmo said, The Holland marsh was thought to be worthless and, much closer to home, the area of the Klondike Gardens to the south in our county was waste swpmp land a. short time ago. Just so there may be untold treasures to be found among our neighbors, perhaps close by or in some fOreign, land - Lunch was served by the ladies of the Tiger Dunlop Institute in --the Recreation Hall.
