Short Circuit
Sets Off' Alarm
morning- by the harsh tones of the
(burglar alarm system of the Gode-
rich branch of the Bank of Mon-
. treal, on the corner of West street
and the Square. .
Some of those nearby discreetly
remainedinstored
doorways, othersher
s
-crossed quickly 'to the Court House
Park, and still others just stood
and .watched.
For town police and bank em-
ployees, it was'an unscheduled test
of their alertness, and they re-
sponded' quickly. When it was
discovered just what was- actually
wrong, workmen were calledto,
disconnect the contrary, but angry -
sounding, buzzer. A short circuit
was blamed fer the mishap.
Shaking their heads with relief,
Observers dispersed, perhaps 'won-
dering what they would have done
if it had not been a false alarm.

WATER RATES • RAISED
TO CUT SERVICE LOSS
Public Utility bills recently is-
sued have brought some enquiries
regarding increased water rates.
"h think everyone knows we
were losing money on this service,"
Manager E. Weaver explained.
"Z;he increase will help compen-
sate. It won't bring it all up,
but it will help, and the commis-
sion did not wish to raise rates
'further until some additional value
is given' consumers- in the new
