Turns Hobby Into
Paying Business
In these day.s of college educa-
tio,ns; and s cialized training, not
many people can take a hobby and
turn it into a pro itatlble business.
That, however, is just. what S1.
Bullen, Gibbons street, has done.
)Ir. Bullen, a `welder by ,trade,
was born in England and emigrated
with his parents in 19112. 11,e went
to .1Vledieine Hat, Alberta;" "at a
time when," remyinisced Mr. Bullen,.
"the cowboys had just 'hung up
their guns, and you 'could travel
for 60 Miles in any direction with-
out meeting .a person or a build-
ing,"
After several years in Winnipeg,
he joined the R0AFF-in • October,
1939. After the war, he became
a welding instructor with the Air
Force,nd it ,was during this time
that became interested in wood-
work' g, but purely as a hobby.
In 1952, he was posted to 'RCAF
Station, Clinton, as NCO in charge
of the station workshops.
In 1956, on his retiremerft, he
had planned to return to the west
which he had alway sthought of as
his real home. However, when
faced with ,the need for making a
liming, and having. seen 'Goderich,
he decided to set up a woodwork-
ing shop here. "Goderich," he.
said, "has been good to us. Before.
the.war,,people told me to 'go east,'
bait 1G„always thought the west was
better. Now 'I believe the east is
much better at le
have trees, and can grow a good
garden; you can't out there."
Three years have passed since
her set up . here, and he is . doing
a brisk business. Lately, he receiv-
ed a contract from RCAF, Clinton,
to do their repair work. All this
keeps, him pretty busy, but he
still finds time to visit his married
daughter, now living in Unity,
Saskatchewan.
