I did this week, in Germany. But
now to go back to Switzerland
where I was when I wrote you last
week.
We were in a verY posh hotel
in 'Lausanne, with every comfOrt,
'delicious food and good service.
Saturday morning, bright and
early, „we 'walked down, and down,
and down, to the harbor to go for
a boat trip down the lake, It was
a bit misty at first, but in a short
time I could see streaks of snow
glinting in the sunshine, and grad-
ually one mountain and then sev-
eral were discernlble. The moun-
tains were on the' right and ahead.
On the left hand, ter several miles,
there were' terraces right to the
tops of the hills, planted with grape
vines, and held in place with stone
walls. That part of Switzerland is
famous for wine. We went as far
ag Milton and explored the Castle
'Where the risoner in Byron's poem

wonderful and at times horrible,
history.
'04 Sunday morning we attended,
the Church of England. The mM-
ister was' Japanese, and is Very
good friend of one of our Japanese
friends. In the afternoon we went
to Geneva. We went up to the
Palace of.:Nations, but could not
get in because of the Conference.
So we went to the International
Labor Organization Building in:4,
stead. Then (tt walked baek to the
station along the lake front a
mile or so -of gardent and parks,
and a fountain shooting up — a
hundred ifeet'or more into the lake.
We visited Berne and Basle also
before leaving Switzerland.
Our train ride into Germany was
the ;fastest yet. .,-At first the landt
scape was much like the last few
hotuzst in Switzerland—veri distant
mountains and splendid farm land
close at hand and hoed • crops!

Fortunately, ',both Cathedrals are
still standihg. Mainz is red, sand-
