T h e Progressive -Conservatives
were returned to poWer in Ontario
at last Thursday's election, taking
a total of 71 seats, while theLib-
erals secured 22 and•the OCF five:
It was a gain of 11 seats for the
Liberals from the 1955 election.
and a drop .of 12 for the. Progres-
sive -Conservatives.
In the riding of jIuron, Charles
S. MacNaughton rolled up 'a .major-
ity of .1,698 over his Liberal oppon-
ent, Harry -Strang. MacNaughton
polled 7,725 votes in comparison to
Strang's 6,025. It was a larger.
majority than the 1,164 majority
MacNaughtdn had in the by-elec-
tion When •• he was first elected.
A total of 77 per cent of the voters
turned out, one of the heaviest in
years. Clinton, Goderich and Ex-
eter gave tiallacNaughton strong
support.

tion when about 8Q polls ,had been)
reported. At 9.30 p.m., he -left
his Liberal committee room at Ex-
eter and went to the Conservative
committee room where he con-
giatulated MacNaughton. A round
of applause was given Strarig fQr
his good sportsmanshiP.

Russell, Bolton and W. E. South-
gate was chief, election clerk.
Hanna Wins
In Huron -Bruce, the. veteran John
Hanna 'retained his seat, defeating
Rae J Watson, the Liberal- candid-
ate, by a najority, of 1;517, The
member of the Legislature for•
HuronriBruce for „ 16 years polled
a total of 6;759 votes while Watson
got 5,242 votes.
In the last provincial 'election,
Hanna' had a majority of 1,475 over
Hugh Ilill, Liberal.
