The W.M.S. of (Knox Presbyter-
ian Church met at the home of
Mrs. Robert Bisset, Sahtford
Heights, on the afternogn of May
The, president, Mrs. G. Schaefer,
presided, , Mrs. R. Bisset read the
Scripture. Prayer was offered by
Mrs. N. Mackay.
The guest speaker was Miss Ida
White, home on furlough ffom
India, where she 'was in charge of
a mobile medical unit.
When Miss White was appointed
a' deaconess; the, ceremony was
held in•, the" auditol'•i.um of the Pub-
lic School,as the,.new church was
not then finished,, A life Mem-
bership certi>ffeate and pin, was
presented to her by the Senior
Auxiliary and the Arthur Circle.
After ,six and a -half years in
India, the Senior Auxiliary decided
to give her an honorary member-
ship when, she returned' home on

bers of- Benmiller W.A. have
undertaken the project of install-
ing ,water in the ,chuiwh. In .order
to dothis they need money, so
they have, asked people to donate
articles for -variety auction sale.
This will be hel4 on Wednesday,
June 17, at 7 p.m., at Benmiller
United Church. Mr. Harold' Jack-
son will be the auctioneer. -

received the handsome fee of two l

came tax collector.

Edward N. Grigg, R.R. 3; Clinton,
1953-1954; John W. Deeves, R.R. 3,
Clinton, 1955-1958 and the present
'reeve,' Walter J. Forbes, R.R. 2,
Clinton.
Also attending were Roy Tyndall,
I R.R. 3, Clinton, road superintend-
ent: Carman Tebbtbbtt, R.R. 2, Clip -
ton, assessor, and Clerk Robin E.
Thompson, R;R. 2, Clinton, who
{emceed the.affair, and presented
the history of the township,. in
1 connection with the work of the
tax collector, and increases in
money raised and spent in the
towpship, •
Altogether, Mr. Sturdy served
under 13 reeves during his career.
Five have since passed away; they
were: Wilmot Haacke, Bert Lind-
say, I•Ierb Cox, John Middleton anti
Harry Salkeld.
Mr. and Mrs. Sturdy were pre-
sented with a -pair of rest rockers,
upholstered in 'grey and 'green,
and a silver smoker.
Mr. Thompson voiced ,the appre-
clation of the gathering .for Air,
Sturdy's stories, jokes and good
service in municipal affairs for
-aver 40 years. lie said, "This
gathering is sy.mbotic of the hund-
reds of people in the township
who, would like to express their
good wishes." ►,
Mr. Sturdy replied briefly, ex-.
pxe°Ssing his appreciation for the
kindness shown him, and remarked
upon his, pleasure in serving the 1
township.
Speakers following the, presenta-
tion included Nelson W. Trewar-
tha, Clinton, former, 'reeve, former
warden and former MPP for Huron,
who told• of the pioneer families
