London, May 10, 1959.
Did you ever spend an hour or
so in The Old Bailey, watehing a
trial? That is one of the things
we have done this week. At, this
moment we are sitting in the gal-
lery of City Temple watching the
- co n g r e g a tion assemble. City
Temple was almost completely de-
stroyed in 1941 but has (been re,
built, quite modern in design in-
side. It was originally built in
1874; the congregation founded in
11940. Lt is congregational. Be

churches. We have had a leisurely
walk this morning in this old part
of the city.
Later.—We are now sitting on
the terrace of Royal Festival Hall
waiting to have dinner and attend
a convert conducted by VValter
Susskind, who, as you know, is
cbnductor of the Torooto Sym-
phony Orchestra. We are looking
across the Thames to 'the embank-

We have 'had iniiiirier Wee' a
day. After church iwe wandered
around seeing many historic spots
and had lunch. Then we took a
bus to,Hyde Park Corner where we
saw the Wellington 'Memorial and
his old home, nom a museum.
Next we went to Alb -Ort Hall, built
in honor of Albert, the Printe
Consort. It is huge and vert ornate
on the outside with all sorts of
carving and friezes and quotations:

Keeping watch along , the highway,
As the travellers come and go.
Wherever I may wander,
By vale or rippling rill,
• My thoughts returnat twilight
To Christ Church' on the Hill.
There is stands in holy grandeur,
•,On land that' had been given,
With the turret pointing upward,
Like a finger up to heaven.
When the bell will 'call for worship,
On a lovely Sunday morn,
I'll be hastening to the service
From the house where I was born.
Here within this sacred building •
I gave myself to ,God,
Placed my soul within His keeping,
As the way of life I trod. •
Now today I see the faces
I have seen so oft before,
As we gather here for worship
As we did in days of yore.
Methinks I hear the music
Of theorgan softand low
As they bore;our precious loved
'
ones
Through the old familiar door.
I recall the ;solemn service
As we bid our last good-bye,
E'er we laid them down so gently
In the sacred plot near by.
When we gather home in glory,
In the land where all is well,
We will thank the,..Lord who gave
This Christ ,Chureh-on-the-Hill.

YUKON. BISHOP
SEEKS HELP
-1.4e/r-'a er
age—Warr the Taitest growing
part of Canada," ;there is great
need for ordained and lay workers,
Rt. Rev. Toin; Greenwood, Anglican
Bishop of Yukon, told the ;Con-
gregation 'a St. George's Church
on Sunday morning. ^t,
"We have a great task in that
area, where the work of th6 church
began in 1861 and has never ceas-
ed," the Bishop said. "It has never
been comfortable work, always had
its ups and downs, and one of its
greatest difficulties is insufficient
manpower."
- This week he began a:series-of
addresses to the various deaneries
in Huron Diocese, The Huron
eanery meeting is at Exeter to-
day, Thursday.
• "As a missionary bishop," he
said in the course of his sermon,
"I would be remiss if 1 failed to
• thank you people in Goderichfor
what you are doing for the mis-
sionary work of the church, ;
"The task, in the_ Yukon is con-
tinually growing, and there has to
be increased giving on ;the part
of the whole church. Our con-
gregation in Whitehorse has out-
grown its old log ehurch---the only
log cathedral, I ' think, in the
world. It was built in 1900, and
it has been decided they must
have a -new -one,- ---Therhave---had:-a
Wells.carnpaign and have Pledges
that will almost cover ;the cost of
a new cathedral. Whitehorse is
anxious to pay its- own'way, but
that is a larger congregation. We
have to operate for a small popula-
tion of Anglicans in 14 churches.
The life of a car is limited, and
our men, with the stipends they •
are`gettin,g, just cannot affor&cars,
and we as a diocese have to try
and ;buy them for' 'them. Our as-
sured income in the diocese is
just about $1,500, and expenses are
$15,000. The M.S.O/C. makes a
grant towards stipends and the
rest has to 'be raised by the bishop.
ft is a big task and we need help. ,
We have had to buy three cars
this year. , We hadn't the money
but we Korrowed 'from the bank
and prayed about it and usually
sonleone comes alopg and helps
us. That is not an assurance by
which you can make plans for the''
future.
'We built five, or six new
churches in the past seven years, '
opened two Or three new stations
along the Alaska Highway and
were able by the grace of God and
prayers of /he faithful to fill all
these posts. That is not,,going to
continue. By the end df this sum-
mer, 50 per cent of our manpower
will have gone, and at the moment
there -is no one to replace them.
Unless men are forthcoming, from
