A New School
For HolmesviHe
HO1JMESVIIIM. — A new two -
room school is to be built, at
Holmesvi1le at an approximate Bost
of $40,000 and accommodating 60
pupils. Goderich Township School
Area Board, meeting ,,,with the
Township Council here on Wed-
nesday of last week, agreed to
settle fora two -goon, school in-
stead of the,four-room (school, orig-
inally sought.
The new school will be about
a block away from.} the present
one -room school but • when it is
completed the school will be oper-
ated as a three-room consolidated
unit. Total enrolment of the en-
tire school is expected to be about
105. Pupils attending the 'new
school will come from .Goderich
Township schools No. 10 and 11
which are to be closed.
Nine acres, of (and south of the
CNR tracks here have been pur-
clrased for $1,350 as a site for
the new school, The school board
hds set a target.date of January 1
for the opening of the new school-
and 'say the date will not go beyond
Septenuber, 1960.
The four -room proposed school
was turned down by council due
to the petition of taxpayers in
the two' • schools in section four
who objected to having their rural
schools closed.
ANNUAL BUS TOUR
The Huron , County . .Holstein
Breedez�s-'' Association are holding
their 1959 bus tour on Friday,
May 29. The bus leaves from Bel, -
grave at 8 a.m. (D.S.T.) and visits
in both Perth and. Oxford counties.

Merchans' Association' in Scar-
borotigh.
Mr. Reid, soh of Mr. and Mrs.
James W. ,Reid, of Bruce street,
Goderich, is a science teacher at
Vaughan Road Collegiate in 'Tor-
onto. '
. Howard Barker, president of the
Parkway Plaza Merchants' Associ-
ation, presented the key of -,thee
new car to the Reids on April 18.
It seemed like everything was hap -
penny at once, for just eight days
before, James Elliott Reid had ar-
rived on the scene to join his two
sisters, Margaret, three, and Rob-
erta, 15- months. ,..r.
The generator and one lire had
just given out on their 1947 'ear
"so the new Dodge came none too
soon," quipped Mr. Reid.
Besides the car, the Reids were
presented with a record player,
car coat, groceries, garden tools,
car washing kit, hair dryer, doll
buggy, gift certificate, blazer and
camera kit.
A photo of the Reids receiving
the key to the new car appeared
in the May issue of the Parkway
Plaza News.

Signal -Star of April 30th, 1959—
(Centary Old Account Book).
The family concerned were the
Youngs, of Carlow. Alexander
Young arrived. in Goderich in 1834.
Alex Young, and wife (Jean
Squire), ten children seven boys
and three daughters—settled on
land on 8th concession of Col-
borne, taking up 800 acres from
Canada Company. He purchased
considerably more later. He built
sane mill,' barley mill, oat meal
mill. He built dam on Young's
Creek and operated for many
yeit ,of Carlow.

of Colborne, for • over 20 years,
was the manager of the milling
and }merchandising operation be-
sides •farming about 300 acres of
his' own. -
The brothers were Alexander,
William, Charles, George, Gordon,
Jahn and James., Gordon's name
is spelled "Girvon" in the article.

Joseph's Church at Kingsbridge
will be the 'scene of a Silver Sac-
erdotal Jubilee on -'Wednesday,,
May 27, when the. Parish priest,
Rev. Father H. Van Vynckt, cele-
brates 25)) years in the priesthood.
A solemn thigh mass in honor
of the occasion will be sung at
4 p.m., in the church. Immediately
tfollb(wing the mass, a dinner 'will
be served in the Parish Hall. The
C.W.L. willcater for the dinner,
at which the parishioners and many
invited guests t wtill be present.
Rev. Father Van Vynckt • came
to Canada from (Belgium in 1927,
.following which he studied at
Laval University, Quebec, and later
took Theology at St.'rPeter's Semin-
ary, London. He was ordained to
the priesthood on -May 26, 1934, at
St. Peter's Cathedral, London, by
the late Bishop John T. Kidd.
His first appointment was as
curate to Father J. Mahoney on
June 6, 1934, at Lasalette. On
March 20, 1935, he became assist-
ant pastor to Father E. F. Goetz
at Our Lady of the Help Church
at Wallaceburg. His (first appoint-
ment as pastor was at Sacred Heart
Ohurch at 'Langton on October 15,
1941. -
O,n June 28, 1962, he became
pastor of St. Joseph's Church,
Kingsibridge, and will have served
as parish priest there dive years

this coming June 28th.
Rev. Father Van Vynckt has two
brothers in the priesthood, Father
Gerard Van Vynckt, P.S.M., at Tis-
dale, • Saskatchewan, and Father
Robert Van Vynckt at St. Peter's
Church, Tilbury, Ontario. His
mother resides in Toronto.

graduated from Royal Military
College.

College, has joined the office staff

with Mr. and Mrs.. Pat Scrimgeour,
Huron road.
Mrs. 'Frank Rowed accompanied
her cousin, Mr. H. Greer, Mrs.
Greer and daughter to Detroit last
week -end were they visited their
aunt, Mrs. L. Stewart who cele-
brated her 95th birthday on May
18.
Mr. J. H. Kinkead was in Toronto
attending a short course at the
University of Toronto for school
inspectors from various parts of
Canada.

of Benmiller United Ghureh was

chell taking part. The W.M.S. bale
containing used clothing, a layette,
and blankets will be packed the
day after the June meeting. The
study book was taken by , Miss
Annie Baxter. The ,blanket pro-
jeet, involving a lot of work for
Mrs. J. Stewart and her committee,
was very suocessf'ul and some'
dozen or so blankets and 13 motor
rugs are ready for the bale and
other worthy projects. A memor-
able part of the afternoon was the
presentation of a life membership
by Mrs. S. Moote to Mrs. Wm.
Turton. This was given in memory
of the late :1V1rs. Geo, Baxter.
Mrs. Milford Durst opened the
W.A. meeting by' reading an ex-
cerpt, from the address of Mrs.
Rose at the Presbytery meeting.
Plans for the June auction sale
were discussed and it is hoped the
community will respond generous-
ly with good saleable material. The
-ladies decided to- again sponsor a
`treat for the' Mission Band picnic
and also to assist the Sunday
School with the buying of supplies
for the Vacation Bible .School to
be held in July. This will include
