' The last dance of the year, the
"Spring Prom" was held last Fri-
day evening and was a big success.

On Tuesday, May 5th, the annual
banquet of the Collegiate Corps of
the R.C. Army Cadets took place.
Award winners received their tro-
phies and were as follows: Best
Cadet on parade, Sergeant-Major
M. Dalton; best Cadet (No. 1 Pla-
toon), Lawrence Black; best Cadet
(No. 2 Platoon), Jack Van der Meer;
best Cadet (No. 3 Platoon), Jim
Boyes; best shot in Corps, Sergeant
John Hazlitt.
Entertainment followed featur-
ing a display of magic by enter-
tainers from London, (Congratul-
ations are due to the Officers and
Cadets of the Collegiate Corps for
their fine display at the inspection
and all year long.

A trophy for the grand champ-
ionship team and awards for top
individual bowlers were presented
at the Industrial Bowling League
banquet at Maitland Golf ClUb last
week.
Harry Little presented the grand
championship trophy to the Huron
Tower team, of which Jack Little
was captain. The, Legion bowlers,
were group "A" winners while the
Tigers were tops in group "B."
The consolation winner was Gode-
rich Elevator & Transit Co, team.
The high average award was cap-
tured by Vincent Young, While
Ralph Kingswell was a double win-
ner �-- for high single and high
triple. The various awards, were
presented by Eugene Ryan, retir-
ing president of the league, and
Karry Little. ,
For next season, Jack McMillan
heads the league and is president
of group "B." Other group "B"
officers are: secretary, Wicker 'hero;
treasurer, Bob Williams.
Group "A" officers were an-
nounced as follows: president, Bob

Two . loads of boys and girls of
the different Presbyteries, spent
Saturday at Kintail Camp in pre-
paratiion for the summer time. Two
new cabins are being built on the
grounds.
Mr. Charles Hawthorne has been
made territorial representative of
the Niagara Peninsula for the W.
A. Sheaffer Pen Company with
headquarters at Hamilton. The
appointment went into effect on
May, 15t11. Mr. Hawthorne has been
assistant to the Sales

The "Greenhorns" emerged triumphant after a
three-week play-off series involving the six top
ladies' bowling (teams in Goderich. Seen holding
their trophies, left to right, are: • Mrs. J. D. •Mc-
Leod, Mrs. F. Rouse, Mrs. E. Allison (captain),
`Mrs. F., Overholt, Mrs.' N. Sale and Mrs. A. Mc-
Connell. The team trophy and individual tro-
phies for each member were presented by Harry
Little on behalf of Little Bowl.

Banquet Ends,
Curling Season
The activities of the Curling
Club came to an end for the season
May 6th •when some 60 -members
attended the annual banquet at
' the Legion Hall. The Ladies' Aux-
iliary of the Canadian 'Legion,
catered for the occasion.
Prizes were awarded for the reg-
ular schedule games and presented
by Maurice McMillan. In the draw
for the ladies' first prize Went to
Phil Doak ,and her rink, including
i Isabel Bamforth," Noreen Skinner
and Jean McDonald; second prize
to Mildred Whetstone and her rink
including Eleanor Bryon, Pat
Frantsi and Sarah Alcock; third
prize to Marg McMillan and her
rink including Kay Alexander,
' Ruth Clancy and Annette Stomp.
The prizes for the men in -the
first draw were: first, Dr. N. C.
Jackson's rink, including Bruce
Holmes, • Bill Tucker - and press,
Chenery; second, Clem Graeey's
rink, :including Alex Alexander,
Bob Hays and Bill Antie; third,
Harold Montgomery's rink, includ-
ing Bert Alexander,, Jim Slteoch
arid Harry Adams'.
In the second draw, only two
games were played owing to short-
age of. ice time, so only one win-
ning prize was given and that
went to Peg Wood and her four-
some which included Vi Montgom-
ery, Dorothy `Allaire and Martha
Rathburn.
In the men's draw, "Stu" Ogg
captured first prize, his rink in-
eluding John Parks, J. B. •Lang -
ridge and John Kemph.
The new slate of officers for the
1959-60 season is: President, Stuart
Ogg; treasurer, J. W. Wood; secre-
tary, Bruce Holmes; curling com-
mittee, Harold Montgomery, Dr. N.
Jackson, Alex Alexander.
The curlers adjourned to the
arena for an evening of dancing
and entertainment.

Babies Baptized
'On Mother's Day
. NILE; May 12.—A large attend-
ance was on hand for the Mother's
Tray—ser vice -°°-last Saeid
babies were baptized. They were:

Pollock, Mr__ -and Mrs. Elwyn Pol-
lock,, Mr. and iMrs. Alex Nivins,
Mrs. George Nickilson and the late
Mr. Nickilson, Mr. and Mrs., Ray-
n�onrl Haggitt, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
McGee, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. McPhee
and the two children of Mr. and
Mrs: Wm. Huff, of Brantford.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher, Doug
and Gail, visited Mr. Fisher's
mother in Galt on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wena Huff and
children, of Brantford, were week-
end visitors with Mr.' and Mrs.
Harry Watson. ,Mrs. Huff and
children remained with her par-
ents for a longer visit.
Miss Marian Orser, of Victoria
Hospital, Lond'an, spent the week-
end at her home here.
The W.A. held a quilting at the
home of Mrs. Harry Watson last
Tuesday.
The Y.P.U. held a suceessful
bowling party in Goderich Friday
evening.
Mr. r Lyman Potter and Mr. Lyle
Potter, of Detroit, spent a few days
with their sister, Mrs. James Mc-
Intyre, and Mr. McIntyre and call-
ed on their niece, Mrs. Allan.
Dickson recently.
Miss Helen Rutledge, of Toronto,
spent the week -end at her home
here and Dorothy went- back to
Toronto with Helen • for a week's
visit.
Mrs. G. A. Mr°Vee attended the
W,A, Presbyterial held at Moncrief
last Wednesday.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs.
Orland Bere on the arrival of a
baby girl on Monday in Goderich
hospital. '

Y.P.U. 'Meeting..— The regular
meeting of the Y.P.U. was held in
the church ,basement Monday night
with 18:members present.. Carol
.Petthnan was in charge and read
the Scripture and topic. Rev. R.
Kennedy , led in prayer. Recrea-
tion was in charge of Bud Mahon.
Inspector Amazed
By Progress Of
Retarded Children
An inspector who recently visit-
ed the Goderich and District School
for Retarded Children was amazed
by the progress made by the pupils
since the opening of the school
on January 5.
The "school, which has the use
of a room in MacKay Hall, was
inspected by Mrs. .Ax M. Stocker,
of the Ontario Department of Edu-
cation, Toronto.
There are six pupils, all of them.,
girls. As an 'example of the pro-
gress made, when they started
school in January., only .one could.

gether. Mrs. Paul Walmark, the
teacher,. states that at least' one
boy wild" be,1 attending the school
when the next term opens in the
fall.
Mrs. Walmark adds that the
school's charter is coming through,
and it will soon , be eligible for a
provincial grant. In the mean-
time,: many donations—both equip-
ment and money—have been re-
ceived from interested citizens and
groups.
At the end . of this term, it is
hoped that an "open house" will
be held,- says the teacher. Town
Council arranged to have the class-
room completely re -decorated,
with a new floor installed, before
the school opened.
Mrs. WaImark says she will be
very pleased to have anyone w,ho
is interested come around on
school days, between 9 a.m. and
11.30 a.m. to observe the children
at work. .
