Mennonites Visit
Notwithstanding prolonged , chil]y
weather, the number ,of visitors at
Huron County Pioneer Museum
has already reached 700, Curator J.
H. Neill reports. Oneparty this
week was from Sudbury; several
have been from the United States.
Afew days ago a whole busload of
Mennonite young -people from
Johnstown, Pennsylvania, dropped
in, "between 'concert engagements
in Zurich and Tavistock.
"They were very much, taken
with the exhibits," Mr. Neill said.
"The Mennonite people take keen,
interest in pioneer equipment."
•In the vehicle department, the
museum has added an excellent
specimen of the three -wheeled
handcar or velocipede used for
railway track inspection before
gtasoline replaced hand poWer. ;his
one was operated on the Canadian
National.
Another new arrival is a cloven
huller, used for white seed ' clover:
These are now very rare. Tins
specimen came from near Elmira.,.
Thus the collections continue to
grow. On. Monday evening 15 •or'
20 small articles were ,placed
aaniong the exhibits. 'Mr. Neill,
who has ,built a number of she* --
eases, has completed a ' new one
housing the models of old-time
ladies'''dresses and relat • exhibits..:
The museum is mor that ever
worthy of the widespre d attention
it has attracted, and thiii year may
well set a new record for attend-
ance—bast year' 16,000.
