Huron's road equipment. •
Gone forever are the days 'when

inabded a stopping 9140 to feed
the horse and rest the weary travel-
ler. This• 14 -room hotel $brings
back many memories of the gay
nineties when' this little village
was a scene of great activity and
a trip to town on Saturday even -
nig was a great event to 'which
everyone looked forward.
The first general store in the
village was located where the
hotel stood. It was operated by
a man named Benigough. Robert
Scott ran it for two year after 'Mr.
Bengough left. At the end of that
time, it was purchased by Mrs.
Margaret 'McShannock. Part of
this 'building was made up of a
cabinet shop built by Oswald
Wentzel. ,
There -have been many prae-
tors -of -this hotel-: Some were:
Joseph Fisher, Jake Kuntz, Mr.
' Welsh, Alex Robinson, Henry 1VI'c-
Brien, Robert Roberton, Walter
'Pfeffer, Forest Carter, Russel King
and Charles Beadle.
The livery stables were also
operated by the different hotel
owners. The hotel was purchased
from Charles Beadle in. 1939 by
Huron County road commission
when it was renovated and is; the
centre of the simmer and winter
road maintenance activities of
Huron County. .
This building was tpurchased by
Sydney ,McClinchev, Robert Arthur
and George Hag;itt and is being
dismantled very -rapidly •to make
room for housing modern road
equipment so necessary to keep
our. :roads in good condition , for
present clay transportation. ,
