Some revisions were made in
the salaries -of-- townShip- -officials-
when the inaligural meeting of
Wes: Wawanosh Township Ceon-
cil was held en January 32.
• A notion was passed authorizing
the reeve and treasurer to borrow
$20,000 for ctirrent expenditures„
if necessary. No borrovving of
money in' the immediate past has
been necessary, thus reducing the
operating expenses -of the- town-
ship council.
A Copy of a reaolution from the
St. Helens Women's Institute deal-
ing with Daylight Saving Tithe,
was discussed. This resolution
was ordered filed for future refer-
ence. Township Councills in sym-
pathrewith imany points in this
resolution. It was generally felt
that a definite decision concerning
-problem --should-beariade- by aa
higher form of government.
On a motion of Councillors
Durrin and MtPhee, the following
accounts were passed for payment:.
Ontario .Good Roads AssociatioR,
membershiP fee, $15.00; Ontario
Association of Rural Municipal-
ities. membership fee, $15.00; Sal-
vation Army, Lond6n, grant,

OBITUARY
Word hat been received by rela-
.tives here of the recent death of
aMartus ,Seivright Stewart, of Cali-
fornia. -He was born at Benmiller
where he received his early educa-
tion but later went 'to the United
States.' He resided in California
for the past 37 years. About 15
years ago he returned to hiS na-
tive land and conducted a flower
shop business on the Square for
several -years, _later returninuto
the United States.
He is survived by his wife and a
son, 'John, as well as a brother,
Joseph Stewart, of Benmiller.
There is also a sister, Mrs. J. F.
(Grace).Grey, of Cleveland; Ohio..
surviving.
MISS ETHEL A. JONES
A summer visitor here fer many
years apd also as late as last
November, Miss Ethel -A. Jones,
68, of 830 Calvert avenue, Detroit,
died suddenly of a heart attack
on 31inuary• 12th in Henry Ford
Hospital, Detroit.
Born . in Coldwater, Michigan,
she lived in Detroit for 45 years.
In 1910, she graduated from' West-
ern High School, Detroit. She also
attended the Michigan Conserva-
tory of Music, Simonds College,
Boston, and the College of the
University. She began her career
as a music supervisor in 1925 at
Redford,: High Sehoal, Detroit.
Previously she hatf'been a librar-
ian in Detroit. She retired in
1957.
Miss Jones was a member of the
Michigan Harp Club and of the
Tuesday Mosicale: She has no
survi vors.
A private funeral service foillw-
ed cremation of ner remains. In-
terment was at Coldwater, Mich -

my family. And don't think I'm
being, facetious.i really mean it.

periods of quiet desperation in

row. this week when only iron self-
control on my part averted a trag-
edy. There didn't seem to be, any
,particular reason for the midwinter
madness that assailed us. t will
admit that the Old Battleaxe was
well honed for the occasion. She
had a coldsore, which, between
the discomfort and the insult to
her vanity, always makes her about
as cozy to live with as a rabid fox.

' There -vies nothing wrong with
me. Oh, 1 had 'a touch of my
winter backache, the corn on any
foot -was- giving me he rthe ' fu
nate had gone out twice in. 24
hours, and ,,the coal truck had
plowed a couple of coulees in my
:front lawn. But on the whole, 1
was pretty. amiable.*

Mr. and, Mrs. D. Challenger and
Mr. ,..nd Mrs. John Berry attendeel
the -funeral Sydney-J7Sim-
kins 'at Oweri Sound on Thursday
last. Mr. Simkins died quite sud-
denly on Tuesday following a heart
attack the night previous. He was
65 years 'of age and was a son of
Mrs. Joseph Simkiiis and the late
Mr. Simkins. He was a decorator
by trade -and- was a-, veteran of
World War 'I, having Served with
the 6th field ambulance corps. '
The body rested at the Brecken-
ridge 'and Ashcroft funeral home,
Owen Souod, where the members
.of the Canadian Legion held a,
Legion service on Wednesday., even-
ing. The funeral service Was on
Thursday' afternoon at ,St: Thomas
Anglican Church,of which deceas-
ed was a member, with interment
in Greenvvoo'cr-cemetery.
Surviving, Mr. Simkins is his
mother mid a daughter, Mrs. John
Berry, of Goderich, 'and a son,
Edward, of Owen Sound, as well
as a sister, Mrs. D. -Challenger,. of

A report, 'confirming that the
best site for the new water plant
is at the foot of Picton street, was
forwarded to toinicil by Dr. Berry.
He wrote: "As yet we do not
have exact details on the require-
ments for the hospital, but this
report is forwarded to you at this
time to indicate the plans which
we feel are the most suitable for
supplying both pieces with water
from the, lake.
"If this program is carried out,
there would be no need to delay
action on the part of Goderich to-
wards installing this new supply.
When the hospital is constructed,
a line can then be carried from
the supply works to that point
and no difficulty would. be ex -
