Stlbstantial evidence. that Gode- rich is the'cradle of -harness racing enthusiasts in Western•Ontario was to be seen at the Memorial Arena Auditorium Saturday evening when 250 persons crowded • in to attend the sixth annual banquet of the Goderich Trotting and Agricultural Association. .4-Iitting a new high in attendance, the annual banquet,saw such an unusually large„additiOn to the number expected that a second sitting, in ,part,. was necessitated. From many parts of Western On- tario and even from as far away as Batavia, -New York, horse racing enthusiasts' joined, with the . local and district fans ,to mark the an- nual event. The vice- president, Don MacKay, .introducQd the head table guests who included: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hill; Mayor and Mrs. Fznie Fisher; Mrs, Don Mac- Kay; Mr. and Mrs, Bud Jerry; Mr. and Mrs. George - 'Feagan; John Hanna; 'MLA, and Mrs. Hanna; Elston Cardiff,. Moving a vote of thanks to the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for the • fine turkey banquet served ws George Feagan', past president of the association, Mrs. Rose Hill re- plied on behalf of the auxiliary. I President Bud Strry expressed ' p thanks to various individuals who were responsible for the success of the banquet: to Roy Meriam, who provided the necessary seating accommodation; to Clayton Nivins, chairman of the banquet commit- tee, and his committee for arrange- ments made; to H. M. Shackleton, who operated the projector to show the racing films, .`,`The Hambleton- ian" and "The Little Brown Jug." These' films we're in color. In charge of the various draws made was Clayton Niyins. Winners were: Dr. liouze, of Mitchell, the dinner prize; Mrs. Norman Hardy, of Lucan, the electric floor polisher;. Mr. Gib Plante was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, London, last week where he will be a patient for some time. His many friends hope for his recovery as soon as possible.
