Land 'owners in the town's in-
dustrial, zone are upset.. :Under
the terms of the proposed zoning
by-law, they won't be able to start
a new retail business or even build
a house on tb,eir own -property.
These restrictions were a fre-
quent source of complaint when
Goderich Area Planning Board ex-
plained the by-law at a public meet-
ing in MacKay Hall Monday. night.
• The meeting, attended by about
people, was orderly—and muelt
quieter than a similar meeting held
here more than tiVo years ago.
Though several grievances were
aired at the meeting, J. H. Steph-
ens, one of the ratepayerswho
attended, 'pointed out* that the
board members should not feel
that everybody is against the by-
law.. The fact that more than
5,000 people weren't there could
be taken as a sign that their sup-
port is behind the by-law, he sug-
gested.

tnan, hoard chairman, "and we are
constituting the zoning by-law to
help it march in the right diree7
tion,"
Later, he said that the differ-
ences of opinion voiced by rate-
payers attending the meeting serv-
ed to illustrate the task lacing the
board. Three land owners' within
a one -block area wanted their land
put' in three different zones. '
J. K. Hunter, solicitor for the
planning board, explained that the
board will likely make some
ch.anges in the by-law as a result
of the grievances heard at the
meeting., ,Some things will likely
not be changed, but the objectors
will have a chance to carry their
case to the Ontario Municipal
Board at a hearing to be held here
later.
As the meeting neared an end,
Mr. Hunter stated: i'As a result of
discussion tonight, I feel we're
quite likely 'to revert the industrial
zone back to what it was a year
ago—industrial, but can he used
for any other purpose."
