Court Interprets
1 Don't Drink
When Driving"
GODERICH, ONTARIO, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1968
"sJ.i 9.r73. 'sk
(Magistrate D. E. Holmes observ,
ed that there were two possible;
Ways of interpreting Whitney
Goodfellow's, statement that, ' "1
don't drink when I'm driving."
The 53 -year-old Windsor man,
who was charged with careless
driving, could mean that he absol-
utely didn't touch a drop at any
time during a trip, said the magis-
trate. Or he could mean that he
,just didn't ' drink "on the' fly"
(when the car was in motion).
The magistrate felt the latter
explanation probably suited the.
facts of the case better. He fined
Goodfellow $10 and costs or five
days in jail.
Provincial Constable Don • West
over, of Goderich OPP {detachment,
said a car driven by • Goodfellow
was practically demolished in an
accident north ' of• Kintail „on the
night of August 1.
After leaving the road, the car
knocked out posts, ran over a rose
bush, grazed a tree, struck a, pump
in a school -yard and hit another
tree, said the officer.
passenger, Adam Lang, of
Windsor, suffered scalp injuries;
Goodfellow was bruised a bit on
the head, and his sena Jane .-,14,:
sustained a leg ' cut.._ •
Constable Westover' said that
Goodfellow appeared to be suffer-
ing from the after effects of alcohol
when the pfficer found him in a
Goderich restaurant later. Permits • for three new houses
"There was a car coming straight were issued during August by E.

ing his explanation of the accident.
