WINGSTARTED
IN OCT., 1956
It was mid-October of 1958 when
the first sod was turned 'for the
building of the new wing to Alex-
andra Marine and General Hospit-
al. The move. marked the end of
many years of planning for the
badly needed new wing. ,
Although the ',tentative comple-
tion date was set for October X,
1957, when work was first started,
unforseen difficulties in the matter
of supplies, etc., were encountered
which delayed its completion date
about five months beyond. that
originally planned. •
The contract was awarded to
Quinney Construction Company, of
Byron, Ontario. Other companies
which submitted tenders included
Coles -Jeffrey, of Sarnia; Olmstead
and Parker, of Hamilton; Wunder
Construction, of K i t c he n e r;
Thomas Construction and also

Ellis -Don Ltd., of London.
following the announcement
that the contract °had been award-
ed, Goderich Town Council gave
third reading to a by-law authoriz-
ing $125,000 debentures to help
finance the project.,
The tender. of Quinney Construc-
tion Company was finally lowered
to $423,941.74 when changes were
authorized by the architects in
order to stay within range of fin-
ancing.
