Here's the new wing of Alexandra Marine and General Hospital as seen from Cambria Road. The
sweeping driveway leads up to the emergency entrance. On the lawn in the foreground can be seen
a spotlight which illuminates the building at nigh t. Considerable landscaping has yet to be done
immediately around the new wing which, when c ompleted, will set off, the building to best advantage.
The fulfilment of an eight-year-
old dream will be realized on Wed-
nesday, May 14, when the half
million dollar new wing of Alex-
andra QVfarine and -General Hospital
is officially opened by Ontario's
Heath Minister, Dr. MacKinnon
Philips. The ceremony is to take
place at 2 p.m.

here at 11 a.m. and to have lunch
with the Town Council at noon.

It was in 1950 That the first
planning and discussing of a need-
ed new wing by the Hospital
Board tdok place. On October 13,
1954, the first'mieeting . of the plan
ning committee was held. Then
the building committee first met
on February 17, 1956. During the
first week of August in 1956 tend-
ers were called for the construc-
tion of the new wing. Excavation
operations got under way in mid-
October, 1956. Difficulty in secur
ing steel, followed by a strike af-
fecting the brick trade held batk
operations somewhat. But•the first
week -end in February of this year
saw the holding of "Open House"
when some 2,000 people took ad-
vantage of the opportunity to see
the magnificent 44 bed hospital
wing. Soon after that patients
were moved into the new wing.

ernors of the Hospital, J. H. Kin-

With the most modern of, appointments and .providing a dis-
tinctly relaxing atmosphere, the lobby at the entrance to the
new wing of the Hospital has drawn many favorable comments.
Thanks To Ali.
Much could be written of the many hours of \labor put
in over thelast year and more by those who guided to com-
pietion the- new wing of Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital. •As is usually the case' with a public .undertaking
of this kind, men and women serve in various capacities at
no financial remuneration. They have but the satisfaction in
knowing they helped in 'a cause that will serve people in w
this area for years to come. They are, deserving of special
thanks at this time and the Signal -Star is confident that the
people of Goderich and district are thankful to them for the,
job done on their behalf.
There are so many deserving. of thanks that it is
difficult to mention ' all. For this reason we mention here
only thpfe in the key positions of seeing the jab through.
They are.: J...H.. Kinkead chairman of the Board of Governors;
G. G. Parsons, chairman of the building .committee; Mrs. Frank
-Curry; chairman of the- furnishings Committee; S. 14. Prevett,
chairman of the finance committee; Mrs. Dorothy. Easter,
hospital superintendent. In addition, the understanding co-
' operation shown by the Goderich Town Council and. Quinney
Construction Limited, the general contractors, was most
appreciated. y..
1"heYgrowing irmportance of Goderich and- district is -reflected
