"At Home." -About 65 persons attended the "At Home" at the Rectory on Tuesday evening. The Rev. E. Harrison received the guests .in the hall. Mrs. P. Weston, president of the Guild, was con- vener, assisted by Mrs. Don Middle- ton and Mrs. E. Wise, Mrs. R. J. Larson, Mrs. Lloyd Scotchmer, Mrs. Jack Stewart and Mrs. A. F. Scotchmer, jr. Mrs. Roy .. Fitz- simmons was in charge of refresh- ments. Mrs. Fred Weston was in dining -room assisted by Mrs. the g Don McLeod. Mrs. A. M. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Sturgeon spent the week -end in Science Hill. Children's Party.- The Trinity Club held their annual pre:school children's 'Christmas party on Thursday afternoon. The hall was beautifully decorated with 'stream- ers, balloons. Santa Claus was there and. ,there was a Christmas tree. Games were enjoyed with Mrs. R. S. Roddick at the piano. 'Happy Birthdax;'.� was sung for little Brenda cMakins who celebrat- ed her fourth birthday on that day. The children were then treated ,to cookies, chocolate milk, apples and balloons.: The child- ren's mothers were treated to a cup of tea and cookies. Miss Brenda Makins entertained a few . of her little friends to a birthday party at her home on Wednesday. afternoon. Harp- er reported on education, asking for authority to purchase a record player, for the adopted school for Christmas, which was granted. Mrs. H. Bettger, citizenship convener, reported that a coffee party for New Canadians is to be held Janu- ary 23 and a committee was ap- pointed to help with this project. Mrs. A. Nicol, Mrs. D. Mooney, Miss J. Saunders and Mrs. J. B. Kinkead were also appointed to. look after the Christmas baskets. A . nomination "ctommittee was formed. The program was then opened with more Christmas carols in charge of the mistress of cere- monies, Mrs. B.- Ainslie. A trio, Mrs. L. Walzak, Mrs. B. Baechler and Mrs. C. Edward sang. Mrs. G. Ellis introduced the guest speaker, Professor James Scott, of Seaforth. Mr. Scott spoke on the history of Huron County which was both humorous and instructive. He was thanked by Mrs. D. Mooney. Two violin selections were then played by 'Mrs. R. Smith and a musical reading Was given by Mrs. H. Bettger,,followed by a duet by Mrs. C. Edward and Mrs. L. Walzak.
