Bradnock) AUBURN, Dec. 2.—An occasion that comes to very few married couples was experienced last Sun- day by two highly esteemed resi- dents of Auburn when Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mogridge celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Many guests registered their names which was in charge of the bride's sister, Mrs. William Marsh, of Goderich, who also welcomed the guests when the couple held open house last Saturday. The house was tastefully decor- ated in a pink and white color scheme with numerous gift baskets of flowers and pink 60's to help brighten the. stormy December day. The madeira covered table was adorned with pink candles, silver tea services and flowers, centred by a beautiful three -tiered wedding cake. the h In afternoon, Miss Sadie Carter and Miss Margaret R. Jack- son poured tea and in the evening, Mrs. William Straughan and Mrs. Charles Straughan. The guests were served by granddaughters, Misses Helen and Betty Marsh and Mrs. Robert Thompson. This honored couple received many telegrams and messages of congratulations and cards from their many friends, also numerous lovely gifts, to mark this meteor -.1 able occasiott. ", «gr On Sunday, December lst, a turkey dinner was served to more than 30 close relatives and friends. The bride, who was formerly Alice Manning, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Manning, and the groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mogridge. They were mar- ried. at the home of the bride's parents by Rev. Mr. Andrews, of Londesboro, and were attended by .Miss Maud Moorehead and Edward CVlogridge. They farmed on the 10th of Hullett for three years. Then, in 1900, they moved to the Base Line and lived on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Bakelaar and family until ten years ago when they retired to live in the village. They are both valued members of Knox United Church, Mr. Mog- ridge being a senior elder of the session now and Mrs. Mogridge a life member of W.M.S. and a work- er in the W.A. rn the community they have been very active, Mr. Mogridge ; being reeve of Huilett for three years and a councillor for 11 years. Mrs. Mogridge is a charter member of the Women's Institute, being its first president and • is also a member of the Horti- culture Society. Her hobbies are flowers and hooking beautiful mats. This couple have two daughters, Mrs. Bert Marsh (Dora), of Peters- burg, and Mrs. Gormerly Thompson (Edith), of Brampton, also' three granddaughters and one grandson and iwo great-grandchildren who were all present on Sunday. Mrs. Mogridge has a brother, Thomas Manning, of London, and a sister, Mrs. William Marsh, of Goderich. Mr. Mogf idg�e is the last living member of his family. Guests from a distance present were: Mr. and Mrs. William Cock- erline, Pilot Mound, Manitoba; Mr. and Mrs. Gormerly Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. 'Robert Thompson and Douglas, of Brapton; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Marsh, Petersburg; Miss Helen Marsh, New York; Miss Betty Marsh, Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wallace and daugh- ter, of. Brampton; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Manning and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Toll and Joanne, of London; Mogridge, of Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. William Marsh, Gode- rich. Davies and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Craig was completely gut- ted by fire. The fire alarm was given about 8.15 a.m. and was answered by the Auburn, Blyth and Goderich fire trucks. It is believed the fire started in the stove pipes and gained headway so much that all was burned inside. Only a small insurance was car- ried on the building. Mr. Benson Shackleton visited his mother, Mrs. :Mathew Shackle- ton, last Tuesday at Victoria Hos- pital, London, and found her re- covering nicely. This week the cast was removed from her broken hip, Mrs. Shackleton was taken there on September 22nd, suffer– ing with both pneumonia and the broken hip_ Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Alton are this week trying to re-establish the part of their house which was damaged last week by fire. On Wednesday of last week, they burned out the chimney with care, they thought, but shortly after mid• night, were aroused with an out- break of fire with flames shooting past 'a bedroom window. It is thought a spark hit the roof. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stanley, St. Thomas, spent the week -end with Mr„ and Mrs. Howard Black and other relatives. Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pentland were Mr. and Mrs. Benson Pentland, Margot, Sandra, London, and Miss Eliza- beth Pentland, St.°Thomas.
