Figure Skating Clu
Say Ice Times Unsuitable
After being in operation for the
past five or six years, the Galeria
Figure Skating Club Inas folded up.
The club's president, Harold )0/Ma-
lian, claims the reason, for the
club's demise is "lack of co -oiler~
ation from the secretary of the
Goderich Recreation and Arena
Committee."
Four carloads of Coderich figure
skaters now travel to Clinton each
Saturday where they join vvith
Clinton figure skaters in practising
at the arena there from 1 to ( p.m.
Last year, according to Mr. Bren-
nan, the Goderich 'Figure Skating
Club ended the year owing the
Gpderich Arena $400 but had $15
in the Walt.
Another member- of the Figure
Skating Club executive stated, "The
Goderich Arena Conunittee never
did see figure skating as a recre-
ation project. They always figured
it was some sort of a social club
operated for the upper crust, which
it most definitely wasn't."
"We have been having difficulty
getting suitable ice time for t
past three years until this year
'finally decided to call it quits,"
said Mr. Brennan. -
Ice tineprovided for the figure
slaters at the ktoderich Awa a last
year was fro . 4.50 to 6.60
on p. l -
on Thursdays .and 6 to 6.A.m. ua
Saturday. "But ttieolee time au
Saturdays waa cancelled on su
. ay•occas ns last year that the
progran was most Junsuitable both
frolna the standpoint of the pro,
fcssnonal instructors and the child -
,ren skaters and their pax eats," said
Mr. Drennan
Officers of the Goderich More
Skating Club are: iiarold Brennan,
President; Mrs. Wallace Duck-
worth, vice-president; t112rs. Arnot
11ikConnell, treasurer.
